I always loved my Mitsu hifi stereo VCR, it rocked!
What I truly fear is the 2005 EVO. I hear it is supposed to have another 30 or so ponies AND the long awaited electronic center diff. Just great I tell ya...just frick'in great!

I've seen a lot of Mitsubishi reliability-bashing here which is to be expected but, as a Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Turbo owner (twice over), I thought I'd throw in a few data points. My 1990 Eclipse GS-T lasted 163,000 miles. The only minor problem was that the stock turbo had to be replaced (okay, that was a major problem
). I sold that one and bought a new 1997 GS-T which I'm still driving with 115,000 miles and no significant problems to date. Both cars have the same basic 2.0 liter turbo engine as the EVO. Yeah, the Eclipse interior is a little weak but mechanically both cars were very good.
I plan on upgrading to a Z soon. They are great cars and look much better than the EVO, but spf4000 nailed it when he said the Z acceleration was monontonously linear. I noticed that right away in test drives I've taken. That "hold on to your shorts" burst of speed with the turbo is hard to give up once you've experienced it (the EVO especially), even if the overall acceleration through the gear is less than the Z. However, when it comes to class the Z wins hands-down. I guess I've grown up.

Well, having owned turbo cars as well... I prefer the linear, predicatble, power band of N/A motors or finely tuned turbos.
Certain manufactures even go out of their way to reduce turbo spool up!
Turbo lag or even that VTEC build up in the Honda's I find really annoying. Especially when hitting the track and having to "think" ahead for where my power will "be" when after I hit the gas; when I am already thinking about ten other things!
But, again, that's just my opinion.

You guuuuuys.... Everyone has an excuse... I mean "reason" why they lost. Personally I think the 350Z is one of the nicest looking Japanese cars on the road, I rank it up there with the FD RX-7, the NSX and the Z32. It has a great powerband, and can be maed pretty fast with enough cash.
However the Evo is a performance machine. Everything takes a backseat to Acceleration, Turning and Braking... period. It might not look the best, but isn't exactally the Hunchback of Notre Dame either.
I have owned MANY Japanese (super) cars - FC, FD, Z32, NSX... I owned a Z33 and sold it for my Evo, and dont regret one minute of it. The 350Z will just not stack up against the Evo stock for stock, dollar for dollar, or pound for pound as far as performance goes.
Give other cars the respect they deserve and just enjoy what you got...
Oh and for the record, there's a bunch of 03 Cobras around MY neighborhood (12 or so in this local "crew") 8 of them turned out for a "shootout" at the local track.. the "slowest" 5 I saw were 11.7, 11.9, 12.2, 12.2, and 12.3...

I know you're lying MattGold because no one in Michigan could own an import!
Hey now...just kidding. I see you're in West Bloomfield...that explains it.
HAH...I kid again.
ANYWAY
Growing up in Westland and Belleville I was surrounded by tuner Stangs and Firebirds only.

Growin up in Westland/Belleville - now you're out in Cali with a 350Z - Someone did Something right.

As for being from WB - still a rare breed as far as Japanese imports go... but how about this, Long Lake and Telegraph, on my way to the Woodward Cruise, here's the list of the cars I passed:
Aston Martin DB7
BMW Z8
04 Viper
Ferrari Modena
RR Phantom
All within 1/2 mile...
I MUST be doing SOMETHING wrong (yeah, yeah, besides driving an Evo)
Yeah, I rarely remember seeing imports while I was in MI (1998-2002) in both Auburn Hills and Lincoln Park. Well, the second one is so far down-river
no chance of driving a nice car there w/o killing it over potholes... although I do give credit to Detroit for fixing I-94 and I-75 and Telegraph and ... too late for my Grand Prix, the suspension suffered.
Best car I had in Detroit so far: Jeep Cherokee sport
-- winter time was fun fun fun
I even spun out on 59 one (nice winter) day, whee!! 4WD rocks! I miss the snow...

Everybody has their preference. I went from a mustang to a 2nd gen turbo II and now my Z. THeres always that rival between imports and domestics, but this is like a hate crime. If you don't like evo's...fine i'm sure some people say Z's are midlife crisis car or worse. The point is... everybody likes their steak cooked for them not others. This Bashing annoys the shiet out of me. We all bought are cars because we liked them the best not because of others and if you did buy one because some ramdom person said you sould then Dr. Phil might have some words.

I will stick with my Z though.
well guys, i'll tell you one thing, as a matter of principle and justice, ......The only reason i'm not on evolution.net right now is becuase of one Word (i don't reall yknow how to spell it) well two words ........ MACpherson Strut. Case closed. The car feels like tipping over in the front, the z conforms to the contours of the road with its multi links all over the place , the toe, caster and camber molds to the pavement. AHHH. Imagine the Z with crazy yokohama chewing gumm sticky tires, The axiz car puller a g and some change on the skidpad.
The evo with AWD and super gummy slicks stock only pulls .92 g's? its decked out in stock from, the z is nowhere near its limit.
Power is all relative and its all driver, lets not sit here and put hypothticals, bythe Way You gett em & eleven hahahaha!!.
I don't know the Mr might just be not worth the Price, plus jacked up mitsu dealers jack up the price and my bicycle just got jacked, the evo is so high off hte ground because of its mac pherson and high roofline that it looks jacked up! hehe Luv for the evo's though,
Its a japense supercar, but too many of them tailgait me on the freeway, wow i wish i could pull peole over like cops and teach people road etticut. wow. i duess with their airodynamics they have to draft me hahah. too bad I;m almost invisible to the air.
i wonder why Mitsubishi never posts the evo's drag coeeficient on their site or brochures? and have you seen the dinky triangles on the rear windsheild of the new Mr, what is that supposed to do? chop the top and the spoiler and then you'll have airodynamics.

but my goal is to pound on an M3 evo's don't even get my exited when they're around my, one did, but it was 400 hp. If i see an M3 i always try to get a better view, or go up to it, kinda like the evo's with me, (weird how the table turn) i wonder if thiers a gang of M3 guys talkin stuff on z drivers, but anyways M3's have macpherson too but hey, maybe if it didn't i'd be at a bmw site right now. But i definetly can't wait for the day i pound on an M3. And no body mods those either, besically if you beat one youve almost beath 80 percent of them. and smg is a good driver gage, hehe. Oh the only M3 ive beaten was an older on, i took it by like 2 cars, maybe 2 and a half. okay three, but man it was fun , my launch was sick, my passenger was heaby too and the M3 had a really small driver and nobody else. But it was an old one NOT A NEW ONE. Meanin 268 Hp . Anyways all i need is a gang of people saying "you liar theres no way" ahha. but as we come to a close, i have to say, i fi can get 380 hp na ahhah. Sunbelt Performance needs to get a kit worked out.

I've been trying to do research on both cars to figure out which one I want. I don't think the MR has much (if any) extra HP gain and the changes aren't very significant. Basically for what they are asking (which I've been told is 35k MSRP) you could do for the same if not cheaper with an 03/04 EVO.
Except you get the "neato" blacked out rear/front lights that you can buy anyway and a diff color or 2 they are releasing. That's what I've read though.

hmm...i took an evo on I-95 no problems he was pretty close to me on turns but after about 110....he was toast...he couldn't keap up...turbo is not made to go over 110+ and his cams wont turn over fast eneough....thats why the Z NA can keap up so well...but this was also with other cars around us...i am alittle crazy around the dc metro area...you'll see me fly by cars going atleast 80-90 so i kinda 'egg' people on to race with me...still no tickets yet... The Z is a well designed car with a lot of potential. The aerodynamics are top notch, the major suspension components are very nice in this price range and the engine, of course, is one of the best ever in the world. The Z has all the base components to build one hell of a racecar. Could a modded EVO ever be as good as a modded Z??? I highly doubt it. Why compare stock to stock when nearly all of us mod our cars? The only reason, I can think of, that someone would by an EVO, STI, or SRT-4 is because they don't have the dough to mod a Z, they need more seeting than for 2, or they don't want to drive a RWD car in the winter. Finacially these cars are more feasible for many because they can finance the turbos and so on. With a Z, you need some dough to buy a turbo or highly modify it in N/A form because chances are you will not find a 5 or 6 year financing plan. I could have purchased an M3, but I bought a Z so that I could modify the hell out of it. More fun that way, more personalized, and when completed will own an M3. Just my take on the whole thing. Are they other cars with a lot of potential, sure.
I agree with a bunch of you on basic facts...
zzzya - Yes, to modify a Z to a satisfactory level of all around performance, it DOES take a healthy dose of cash. Turbos kits aren't cheap, upgraded fuel systems aren't either... 6 pistons and rods cost more then 4. I agree with you, but I think that's a point in the Evos corner. It's less expensive to modify, and the basic mods (Intake, Headers/Downpipe, Exhaust) yield more power on the Evo... response to modification is just off the charts. With that said, what % of Z owners are going to Supercharge, Turbocharge, or build their motors? Not more then Evos with basic mods.
the7ferret - Yes a Z with a turbo kit will most likely take a stock Evo, no questions. But an Evo with a turbo kit vs. a Z with a turbo kit? I say Evo - At the DSM shootout, there were at least 3 STREET DRIVEN, full interior/weight Evos into the 10's... How many 350Zs with turbo kits are dippin that low? Keep in mind - these weren't shop cars - they were people in their mid 20's-30's that modded their cars without sponsors and the like.
Sins4u33 - That's not a race. That's a deathwish. I drive like a jackass sometime too, but keep it OFF populated roads, at what sounds like rush hour.
Let me say this - When I had my past cars, they all were modded well, some were high 11's some weren't quite 12's... but the one car I would always worry about being beat by was a DSM. You NEVER knew, what POS first gen had a 25G on it, and was pushing the 11 second barrier. The Evos are the new DSMs, but a helluva lot more solid (no more Chrysler) and are going to be owning the tracks for years to come.
Best wishes to the Z32 community... better start buyin up those SR20s and RB25s.
