Stupid Evos!
Looks are subjective, so it's obviously not a "fact".
My 03 evo has been 100% reliable, even with over 419 awhp. These engines are cast iron and rock solid. The build quality is MUCH MUCH better than what mitsu's used to be like.
"It's built for the teenage set...."
Ironically enough, every poll that comes out about age of evo owners (evom.net, biggest evo forum), the typical range is between 25-45. The car is built for PERFORMANCE ENTHUSIASTS, not teenagers. Most teenagers can't even afford this car, let alone its insurance.
The car takes to mods great, it's fast as all hell, and its an awesome handler, one thing its not is luxurious.

Slap on a turbo in a Z? Sure, you can do that and be faster, but the Evo could take the same amount of money and become even faster, so it's really a moot point.
Why are you guys so bitter about Evos? Did you expect the Z to beat everything on the road? Then you bought the wrong car--you should have taken your $30k and bought a used car for $5k and then dump $25k to make it a track car.
Our Zs are great cars--you don't have to be able to beat everything else on the road to have a nice sports car.

The only reason, I can think of, that someone would by an EVO, STI, or SRT-4 is because they don't have the dough to mod a Z, they need more seeting than for 2, or they don't want to drive a RWD car in the winter. Finacially these cars are more feasible for many because they can finance the turbos and so on. With a Z, you need some dough to buy a turbo or highly modify it in N/A form because chances are you will not find a 5 or 6 year financing plan. I could have purchased an M3, but I bought a Z so that I could modify the hell out of it. More fun that way, more personalized, and when completed will own an M3. Just my take on the whole thing. Are they other cars with a lot of potential, sure.

man evos r not reliable man u go to the evo forums u find out that people are blowing their engines faaaast when they use the cars on the track, n mitsu isnt replacing the engines cuz theyve been raced on the track...bottom line evo reliability isnt all that great.
Hey park a Z and an EVO side by side and only a blind person wouldn't be able to pick the beauty contestant winner. As for mitsubishi quality I have a 03 V6 Galant 26,000 miles no problems and a 04 enthusiast Z 2,200 miles no problems (taking it in tommorow for nismo exhaust and JWT popcharge). My two cents worth-I wouldn't by an EVO if it was twice as fast as the Z and half the price. My Galant looks better than the EVO's.
FinsNCanes - Funny enough... I bought a Enthusist package Z, and it was a tad more then my Evo. Granted the Evo has virtually NO options (Sunroof and Rear Wing...that's it) it was still more then the Z.
togeracing - I would say less then 1% of Evo owners have blown a motor - even the guys making 600+ AWHP. Now, the Evos aren't without their problems - weak clutch, weak diff, but there are aftermarket (and even OEM in the case of the diff) remedies available that solve these probelms - and keep them from popping up again.
spf4000 & madjulian - I think you hit the nail on the head. Its just not for everyone. Bottom line.
Enjoy what you have, and don't be ignorant to the reality of the situation.

I went to Nissan and could walk away with a fully loaded 350z for about 31-32k.
The ONE Evo I saw was 35k..which is outrageous.
2500 dollar travelers fee? HAH!
If it has more than three doors it's not a sports car but a sports sedan. Hmm those two words just don't fit together. Just my opinion. Now if they made the EVO in a convertible version that might constitute the term sports car. Naaaah it would still be ugly.

I highly doubt you can get a Track Edition ("Fully Loaded") for 32K, but I don't know. At the time I bought mine Tracks were over 35K.
Besides - How can you come to an honest conclusion about the Evos price, after looking at ONE? Lets be realistic here, if you were serious about buying a car you'd look and a couple, shoot maybe even a FEW before you made your final decision.
madjulian - A convertable doesn't make a car, a "sport car", unless of course you enjoy driving a Sebring on the track.
Yes, it's a sports sedan, but it breaks the mold. The M5, sports sedan - breaks the mold. WRX STi, sports sedan - breaks the mold. Are you ignorant enough to say that a Skyline, just bcause it has 4 doors in some trim levels ISN'T a sports car because of that?
Clockw0rk - Yeah - in 04 they bumped the price on the Evos a bit, and the MR is going to top out around 35K.

MattGold if you are going to call someone ignorant you should take the time to understand the difference between someone kidding around and making a serious statement. The comment about "maybe it would be a sports car if it was a convertible" is a joke. I personally can't stand ragtops. They mess up my mullet. I don't know how old you are or if you have ever had your IQ tested but I would bet dollars to doughnuts it is somewhat lower than mine. (156) My sat scores in 1978 were 1156 which translates into todays standards somewhere in the 1400-1500 range. My wife and I have 3 boys all handsome and highly intellegent (all mine confirmed through DNA testing (rikers method). We live on a beautiful 15 Acre ranch here in Jawja. Our 2003 tax income was 115K combined and neither of us finished college. I can walk out in my front yard naked with my coc* in one hand and my 12 gauge mossberg pump action in the other and shoot them both off at the same time in broad daylight on a Sunday afternoon can you?
Can't really compare the price points between a Evo and a Z. The evo shared alot of its initial costs with the standard lancer. While the Z got to share none of its costs with other lines like that. So I'm willing to bet IF the evo was a completely new car with a new body and everything the price point would have started at 35k and gone up from there.

Instead of saying, that car is fast and beat me, good job, one posts up reliability, corporation financial troubles and additional weight due to passangers. Weaksauce.
This place sounds like the corvetteforum.

second, buying a faster car that can beat slower cars stock has no respect. you gotta buy a "car" and tune it up and beat other ppl, that's a respect. racing is a sport of tuning, not with your cash!!! that's why i dont just go out and race with civics, Rx-8, or any other slower cars that isnt tuned. no mean to it. you have to race the car that's in the same category as you are just like if you were to join a racing tournament. you have to be in the same category and other restrictions/requirement. what im saying is it's the driver's skills, not the car. others on here are wrong too!
"cognitive dissonance" - I was impressed as hell when Narco used this term (glad to hear some people actually speak like they have an education) - the term is also found in one of my favorite band's (The Rise) songs:
"Shut down this assembly line quality,
Your coin-flipping, paper/scissors/rock mentality,
You justify it through cognitive dissonance,
Lost in the sound of machine-cut resonance."
and btw, I would have definitely bought an EVO if the lady in my life would have approved - what other $30K car can you make go 0-60 in under 4 seconds w/ under $5k in mods? Drive one, and you will become a believer - the handling/steering are in a league of it's own - if only they would come out with a widebody kit like the one on the HKS Time-Attack Evo... that is the sweetest looking car I've ever seen!

Make that a remington and I am with you. Great feeling isn't it
Best way to eliminate gophers too! That would be the shotgun part.
Fully loaded touring for me was $33k here in norcali
