Default Grounding Kit Observations

With all the controversy about grounding kits and the relative low cost, I decided to put one in and see for myself if they do anything.

I installed a Max-Ground kit in silver Mylar. I figiured if nothing came of it at least it would look nice in the engine compartment.

I made observations of the car before install like idle speed and quality, volt readings on the gauge and general throttle response and feel.

After installation I observed these things again. It has smoothed the idle. My car idled a bit rough and sputtered alot. Now its steady, no sputter. The volt gauge read around 13.8 prior to install now it sits above 14 maybe 14.2 or so.

All other claimed benefits if present I can't tell at this point. Most claim gas mileage improvements, but hurricane Frances has kept me in doors so the jury is out on that issue at this time.

So it seems I paid $90 to get a smooth idle. That's ok. Higher voltage means better electrical efficiency is occurring in the system and that is also a good thing. So all in all not a terrible investment. Plus it gave me something to do during the hurricane..... YMMV

Thanks for the info ZinMiami. Glad your happy with your grounding kit, since most people complain about it doing nothing. BTW...where in Miami are you?

What's wrong w/smoother idle & better electrical system? It's a $40 mod. I spend the same amount on amp power stuff for my class D anyways, might as well have solid grounds & smoother idle.

I think it's all in people's heads. I put it on and have seen no observable improvments. But it's such a low cost mod that it's not a big deal if it doesn't do much. I just think of it as engine dress-up (a tiny bit more useful than an aluminum oil cap).

Hey, the aluminum in conjunction with an aluminum radiator cap have been shown in lab tests to lower overall resistance and thereby increase ground current flows throughout the car, thereby creating higher spark and up to 1.6 HP at the wheels!

I had posted in the florida section about Z's in miami to have members post pics of their cars so we could associate a user name with a car when we see it on the streets.

Wassssssssssup ??? Z owner in Miramar, FL. like you guys ! Have you guys given thought to joining the South Florida Z Car Club? I was thinking about it but was a little hesitant. I want to join a Z club ,but one that is limited to either 350z's and/or 300zx's. It turns out that S.F.Z.C.C. has everything from 280's and older Z's, which doesn't exactly tickle my fancy. Oh well... I just ordered a JWT Pop-Charger and I guess i'll be ordering one of these grounding kits. Also, Monday, if Hurricane Ivan doesn't hit, I'm going to be installing some Stillen test pipes with a stock exhaust. I'll let you guys know how it is.

Nice looking engine compartment! At the very least it has to help give the ECU a better signal. this is why the idle smooths out. i don't know if it gives any measurable gains, but more than likely helps with other mods.
