am i shortening my engine life?
i take my Z to 6,000 6,500 RPMs chirping the tires in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears about 5-6 times a week. it just feels so sweet. the rest of the time i take it easy and shift between 3,000 and 4,500. i know this will not hurt the engine in the short term. but will this hurt my engine in the long term. i'm going to put 25,000 on my Z a year. i need at least 200,000 out of this engine. what do you guys think. long term damage or no damage at all. and will the engine get to 200,000 with this type of driving.

Miles are not a true representation of an engines lifespan. It seems to me, the hours of operation and total RPM's are a bigger factor than miles. Miles are actually irrelevant to the engine. For example, you can sit at a stop light and bounce off the revlimiter for 5 minutes. You will have travelled 0 miles and have put a definite strain on your engine.
Drive your Z hard, they were meant to be driven hard. Change your oil often, keep the fluids topped, never lug the engine, and *ALWAYS* allow your engine to reach operating temperature before you accelerate hard. You should be fine.

I think you'll be fine with that, it is a sports car after all.
Besides taking care of the engine of course, the life to me seems like a matter of luck. I mean the builder in the factory may be having a bad day, or you get a part manufactured just slightly out of tolerance. Whatever the case, I don't like to gamble, so I don't plan on keeping cars for a very long time.

agreed on that. while most engines should have a similar lifespan if driven equally, there will always be those flukes which either die quicker or last way longer. I say enjoy the car.. you bought a sports car so drive it like one
