Default uh.. overrev question? (auto)

juss asking here for one of my cars but it's automatic with the manumode or whatever it's called. 1998 honda prelude. But as i understand, Redline on a prelude is supposed to be 7000 or something like that. Well last time, and today i took it out for a drive and i wanted to hit VTEC really bad so i went into the manual mode and floored it in 1st. Well i shifted when i saw about 6500 and it took some time to shift but the needle (and engine sound) went all the way up to 8000. i thought i blew up the engine or something but no smoke or horrible smells, nothing. Isn't there supposed to be a rev LIMITER that the needle bounces off of? Or can i just shift at like 9k ... hopefully it won't blow the crap out of the engine.

there is a rev limiter. i think it is supposed to be something like 6700? i dont know exactly. however, once i reved it up to 7200 and the rev limiter didnt kick on, but twice i hit about 7000 or so, and my fuel will cut off.

not sure how accurate our tachs are anyways... but 8000 seems way high.
