Will the 350Z beat these cars...
Hey I got a question, my 350Z comes in, in about 1 month, but I have not driven in one yet and I wanna know how it compares to competition. Would it beat these cars from like 0-60 or 0-80?
1. BMW M3
2. M Roadster (z3m3)
3. Honda S2000
4. Camaro Z28
Just some cars off the top of my head, if you ahve experiences with any other sports cars tell us how it went.

If M3, depends on what year!
I had a 98 M3, and it only has 240hp! I bought the M3 brand new as well. My Z only had 75 miles on it so far, but it just feel like it pulls the same as the M. Then again, after break in and really driving it could be a different story. Numbers are close though (performance wise).
01 + M3s are beasts, stock Zs won't beat it.
I have driven 01 and 02 S2000s. Friends and relatives have them. Z will take them both, but the S2000s are fun to drive for sure!
Not a big fan of Cameros, hps are impressive, so is straight line, but twisties??? The real driving begins!!!

Meh..
1. BMW M3 - Models before 1999 yes after 2000 no
2. M Roadster (z3m3) - same as M3
3. Honda S2000 - yes if stock
4. Camaro Z28 - very close call, but camaro would most likely win by a little.

The Z-28s are a little faster in the quarter, the HP is underrated.
I've seen stock f-bodies at 13.5 at the track.
Of course they handle like a pig on roller skates. They have good traction, but throw some bumps at them and the slide around pretty easy.
You really have to abuse the S2ks to get them to perform from a stop. Of course, once you get them going, the scream.
Can't comment on the BMWs. I don't have any personal experience there!

Mag racing obviously.
EQUAL DRIVER makes a big difference.
If both drivers are good drivers...
No, you won't beat a new M3.
No, you won't beat the roadster (unless it's the Z3 3.0 or less..)
S2000 is an equal driver's race.
You will get whomped by a Z28. Those stock LS1 f-bodys can run 13.1.

call me on this if you want, Im still in break in period, so I might be wrong. but it would be my guess that the Z is an easier car to drive than an stookay. they require high RPM launches, with super high shifts at the right time. the Z is more forgiving since its not gonna fall out of its powerband if you miss by a little.
a very good driver in a S2000 could probably beat a Z regaurdless, but I donno if that good of a driver exists. you probably wont meet him. and in the end, race him enough times and his clutch will be smoking before yours. even if you lose the race, you still come out ahead since you didnt just punish your car.
for BMW, if its a M engine (333 in M3 and 315 in Mroadster) hell no, look at the numbers and realize it isnt close, if they are older, then its a different story, with a different engine. and Z3 wont do it with its 3.0 engine.
I hope to god the muscle car can win, its got 8 cylinders with crappy gas mileage and handling for ****, if it cant win in a straight line its pathetic.

S2000 0-60 5.2 sec and 1/4 mile 13.8sec (MT 02/00)
http://geocities.com/pragmaticwonders/fasts2k.html
I know it's hard to launch the S2000, But the question is CAN the Z beat the S2000? I see a lot of people answering YES, but I'm still waiting for the Z to be tested (by a leading publication) that can beat those numbers.
All that aside the Z is not a super great 0-60 car like a SVT cobra or a Z06. But the S2000 is an even worse of a 0-60 car.
I'd like to see lap times compaired between the S2000 and the Z. At the track, the S2000's lighter weight and 50/50 weight distribution might make up for it's relative lack of power.
BTW I have seen the WRX tested at 5.4 and 14.1 sec by C&D, that's the same time as the Z got.

wrx has an AWD advantage, it can drop the clutch way high, and still tear off. look at its 5-60 numbers and youll see what Im talking about.
of course pick any turbo car, and theyll say, oh for 200$ we have another 100hp EASY. that may be true, but that wasnt the question, and at the end of the day, when its all tallied, not only are we driving a Nissan 350Z and their in a subaru. but also we have 6 cylinders and a boat load of torque, along with twice the "potential" power.

isn't magazine racing fun? hehehe
actually if you want to go by the numbers (which i'm trying to remember, so don't quote this as fact)
1. E36 M3 will depend on year (the last time it was reviewed in a US mag, and only magazine M3 to not be sent directly from the bmw in the fatherland...it only turned in a 6.0s to 60...no, i'm not joking) E46..equal drivers, fuggedaboutit...unless it decides to blow an engine mid run.
2. M roadster, don't know....would assume same thing as above, since the M roadster iddnt' ge teh new engine until the 2001 MY IIRC.
3. too close to call....highly driver dependent
4. nope. camaroes be fast. stock mid 13s isn't unusual.

Well, I raced all and the results was:
1) M3 (240HP) 3-4 cars on front, (333HP) 3 behind
2) M Rod. (240HP) 3-4 cars on front, (315HP) 3 behind
3) S2000 2-3 cars on front
4) Cam. (LT1) 2 cars on front (Ls1) 1-1.5 behind
5) Boxtewr S 2 cars on front
6) 911 C2 & C4 (90 -95 ) 2 cars on front
7) Ferrari 360 Modena 6-7 behind
8) WRX 4-5 cars on front (20 mph roll)
9) 911 C4 Trip. (00) Head to Head
All was on 20 or 40 mph roll up to 130-150 mph.
I love my Z, only mod. K&N.

Screw what the mags say....REAL LIFE...I beat a s2000 by 2 cars SEVERAL TIMES. Beat a Camaro Z28 several times too..but the SS is a close race. From a dead stop the Z launches better and barely won...I dont get wheel hop like others...and at a roll the SS will nose out infront of the Z.
I wanna race a new m3 or m roadster...so if you got one in dallas meet up with me sometime.

I like to go to street race, I'm 5'3, about 120 pounds. Touring model, took out the heated seat, sub, spare tire. here a the list of car I have race!
2001 M3 auto with upgrade 19 wheels, got him off the line, he pull a little on 2nd, took off on 3rd, race twice. Won twice. I don't know if an auto is slower then the 6 speed.
There was no M roster or a M3 6 speed so don't know the out come.
Two-s2000 I had a bad launch, got them both on 3rd past them at 4th gear about 2 cars length
Boxer S didn't even have a chance,n he gave me the finger LOL!
Z28 got him at the launch, miss shift 3rd lost (2nd race perfect launch no mess up tide so he say!) 3rd race, he mess up so i won but it was hell of a good race.
Mustang GT no chance, it was like he wasn't even racing me.
2nd race, mess up launch but still got him at 3rd gear, fly by him on 4th. end of race cop came busted!
Got a way because I didn't have any mod on the car. Joy!
Out in all I think if you can drive the Z you will beat alot of car, even if the car has more HP and power. Sometime with all those power most driver can handle their car so if you learn to drive better you will be the victor. Have fun with your Z, I am! Peace

Well if you want real world experience. I've had 2 races against a 350Z, both of which I won in my stock S2k.
yes, the Z is easier to drive faster than an S2k. still a driver's race, but yeah, that's the case.
You have now met such a driver.
By the way, I go to the track often, as well as street race almost every weekend or so during the summer.
I launch my car anywhere between 4000rpm and 7000rpm depending on conditions. It has 22,000+ miles, has never had a problem, and takes the beatings just fine. Honda makes 'em to last. Heck, I just went to the track last night and ran 10 times in an hour. Then took the 45 minute drive home. My car has taken plenty of beatings and clutch drops like this. It runs just fine.
but it would be my guess that the Z is an easier car to drive than an stookay.
