Default Ummmm.. Laser Jammer Officer?

Well I got pulled over today. The State trooper comes over to the Z and says:
"I caught you doing 80 in a 65. Now What's that on your bumper?"
"My bumper? I dunno. There shouldn't be anything on there."
-So now I'm thinking I hit something or my bumper is falling off.
" Yes, your bumper sir. Do you have a Laser Jammer?"
"A Laser Jammer?? I don't think so."
So he tells me to get out and I'm poking around the tow hook thingy and looking for something that remotely looks like a "Laser Jammer." I tell him the vehicle is bone stock and I don't have a laser jammer. Finally he gives up and luckily he just gave me a warning. He wasn't a jerk or anything, but it's the first time I heard of such a thing.

It is absolutely worthless. These "passive" radar jammers DO NOT WORK so don't waste your money. There are "active" radar jammers that do work but they are illegal.

As for the Laser "Jammer" I have one and they do work fairly well. It is made by the same company that makes the Escort detectors and is called the ZR3 Laser Shifter.

Default Do not buy phazer brand!

Laser jammers / shofters can and do work, but I would NOT buy the phazer.

Phazer is a fly by night scam company that sells (or at least they used to sell) "passice radar jammers" which categorically do NOT work.

The Phazer guys are dirty and I wouldn't trust them.

If you want a laser jammer stick with a brand name.

All I know is be careful! It is illegal to jam radar and getting caught doing so results in some heavy fines.

...Jamming laser on the otherhand is legal in most places I think.

....my Escort SRX has saved me a few times.....but it did fail me once.....the cop was able to get a reading ....and I did get a speeding ticket.

They are a good "reminder" rather than a safety net.

Jamming radar is a federal offense in the US since you are purposely creating radio interference and broadcasting without a license to do it.

Laser jamming is basically legal, although a creative D.A. might be able to hit you with interfering with a police officer or somesuch. Unlikely though.

Laser is not controlled by the FCC (or any other body for that matter) like radar, so it is not illegal to "jam", tamper, etc. a laser signal.

Passive radar "jamming" is legal since you are not "broadcasting" out a radar signal. But as I said, it is ineffective against radar. Radar comes under the jurisdiction of the FCC. Active radar jamming (as Andy B said) is illegal.

Laser Jamming is legal. It comes under the jurisdiction of the FDA since it is used as a medical device.

I don't know and since they are illegal EVERYWHERE (at least in this country) I don't think you'll find one for sale "over the counter". You could try searching on e-bay I suppose.

Default Hard to get

They are hard to get since jamming is illegal and selling a device that's purpose is to jam is also illegal.

When I have seen them available they often come as a kit. That way the seller is not responsible if YOU buildit and use it to jam radar.

It didn't seem worth the risk to me. If the cop determines you were jamming radar and if he knows even a little about FCC laws (which he probably does) it would be a federal offense and cose you a LOT of money and maybe worse.

If you do decide to go for it make sure you hide the unit very well and remember to turn it off asap if you get pulled over.

*cough* If you were caught with one, they'd probably call Home Land Defense now.

I don't know this for sure, just speculation...but maybe if one was to use a radar emitting device from say....a motion sensing light (home security lights), and then ...I dunno...modify it to work with a 12 volt power supply...and then maybe up the signal somehow. In theory that could work, not legal, but again it's all just speculation.

My Escort Passport (and I'm sure the Valentine V1 too) works so well that I'd recommend purchasing one of these (before even considering to attempt jamming radar).

I wonder it those damn door openers on store-fronts interfere with cop's radar as much as they interfere with my radar detector?
