05 5AT Rev Matching Feature.
According to Nissans offical 2005 350Z features & specifications, it reads:
" NEW for 05. When downshifting in manual shift mode, engine rpm is raised momentarily to provide smoother downshifts and a sportier feel"
Well, couldn't this be done with the 03 & 04 5AT's with ones right foot? If so, how would it be done correctly? How high would the rpm need to be raised when downshifting to get the same effect?

I am not sure of the technical details, but I have learned to wait till my RPMs drop to "an acceptable range" before downshifting due to abrupt noises, etc.
Never had a problem going from 5>>4, but I know where my baby will complain when going from 4>>3 and DEFINITELY 3>>2.
I have tried to rev match with the accelerator....it has worked....but I really had to be "in tune" to make it a smooth downshift.....IMO....this will be a REALLY good addition to the 5AT

I will sometime push the limits going up through the gears in manual mode....when I realized that rev matching on the way down was not part of the 5/AT.....well......I learned to "go easy" on the way down..........just my .02.....

Sounds like an interesting feature but I personally don't see any benefit. Someone who actually has one will have to tell us more about it sometime. The 5AT will use automatic downshift rev matching in Auto Mode already. In Manual Mode you have to do it through the throttle similar to a standard transmission. I guess you don't do it this way anymore on the 05 5AT. If you wanted to use automatic downshift rev matching wouldn't it be easier to just stick it in Auto Mode? If it's like the automatic downshift rev matching on the Mustang Cobra, you would have to push a button to override the throttle and have the transmission rev match then do the manual shift.
Here's what automatic downshift rev matching does on the Cobra:

Downshift rev matching. This is the most interesting and potentially useful feature. A button on the steering wheel will cause the throttle to increase until the engine revs match the calculated revs for the current speedometer speed. The revs will be maintained for up to 2 seconds or until the clutch is disengaged, at which time the throttle will slowly back off until the throttle pedal is depressed enough to cause a higher throttle input.

ive heard that the 05 autos are slower since they have that rev match. The gears switch slower or osmeting.. i believe someone was talking about it in another thread... not 100% sure
