Default Paint and Intall Estimate

I just got a estimate for $2300 to paint and install Stillen Stage 2 Body Kit w/ the Trunk Spoiler.

This seemed kind of high to me, was wondering what the rest of you have paid to have your body kits installed. This one was Polyurathane.

It's not a totally outrageous price but it does sound a little bit on the high side. An authentic Stillen kit shouldn't require a lot of prep work. Most of your cost will go toward the paint and the painting labor. Yeah, you can pay less for the paint and labor but the you know what they say, "You get what you pay for." Don't skimp on the paint.

When I got my Kaminari kit installed and painted, one of the body shops quoted me $400 per piece for paint and labor. Total cost came out to $2000 for 5 pieces. Another shop quoted me $850 for the whole thing. I was going to go with the cheaper shop until I saw a bunch or ricers at the movie theater the day before I was scheduled to bring my car in. Just out of the blue I asked some of them how much they paid for their body kits and you can totally tell by the quality who went for the cheapest jobs. After seeing the range of quality you get at each price end I went with the more expensive shop.

True

But I did notice they had a Viper, 2 Corevettes, few Mercedes and a Fererri (looked like it got side swiped) in there, so I figure they must be fairly good for guys/dealerships to send there high end cars there... Actually i didnt see any low end cars in there...

I also asked around and they seemed to have the best rep. So here's hoping they do a good job

If the kit is Urethane, you got raped. I paid $1900 for the paint/install of my Fiberglass kit, and fiberglass takes a hell of alot more prep work prior to painting. My kit was a full front bumper, skirts, rear apron and wing (see picture in Signature) EVERY body shop works with Urethane because OEM bumers are all urethane, so they don't need any special expertise in dealing with special materials (like fiberglass) and except for any fitment issues, a Urethane kit should be pretty much paint/bolt/go.

In the end, if you got a paint job and install that you're satisfied with, it was worth it, so don't look back.

being satisified is worth the money in my experience... just as long as they do a good job, it will be worth it...

My kit is urethane and it would of cost about the same if I went with a similar fiberglass kit. When I was looking for a body shop to do my kit, most of the body shops told me that the prep work is more a factor of how well it was made at the manufacturer than the material they used. A kit from a company that uses good manufacturing processes and fitament will cost less while others cost more to fit.

Most of the cost on my kit wasn't the installation it was paint prep and painting. Polyeurethane requires more paint prepping and the paint uses more flexant. If a urethane part isn't painted right it can change colors under normal use. The shop I took my car to paints quite a few exotics and other expensive cars, so I probably paid a little more for the reputation (a little less than $2000 w/warranty) but I'm not disappointed with the job they did. There were other Z's there when I took my car in.

BTW I Thought the Z's stock plastic parts were made from ABS plastic not Polyurethane plastic.
