Default When should the first oil change be done?

Some people say after the 1,200 mile break-in.

Some say at 700 miles

Others say wait until 3,000.

What are you folks doing, and why? Any good reasonings?

I am going in at 3000, I talked to the service director at the dealer and he said the only thing he suggests is checking and topping off the oil if needed at 1000 otherwise go by the Nissan intervals which are actually 3750.

You'll get a lot of different answers on this and there's not one right answer. I got mine changed at 2,500 miles and will again at
5k. After that it's every 5k as with all my vehicles - it's easy to remember everytime thousand's digit hits "0" or "5" it's time to change. This is equal to about 3 months driving times for me.
If you only travel 5k miles a year you'd need to change the oil more often.

I'm changing mine when I hit 1000 mi to get all the crud out of the engine. After that, every 3k, which is right at 3 months of driving for me. I plan on being very protective of my new baby.

Be prepared, you're going to hear a million different theories on this. You'll also hear a million theories on use / timing of synthetic v. natural oil.

My dealer told me to change my oil first at 400 miles. I'm pushing 1000 and haven't yet. I think I'll make my first change at 1200, right as the break-in ends.

Did i miss something? Were did the manufacturer state to do the oil change at 1200miles? I changed mine at 3000 miles and there was no chunks of metal or abnormal metal shavings, if any.

I think VQ was just saying he will change oil and filter at 1200 miles, just using procedures like the manufacturer says to change at 3750 miles. He will be changing oil and filter after breakin, 1200 miles. Nissan does not require an oil and filter change at 1200 miles.

Did I get it right, Vic?

I Just went over 2400 miles. The dealer told me to bring it in for the first oil change between 2500-3000 miles.. The oil still looks good color wise so I'll follow there recomendation. My 1974 260Z had over 200,000 miles on it when I sold it. I changed the oil every 2500 miles. It never burned a drop of oil. I just wish the rest of the car would have held up as well..

I changed mine at 1300 miles and put a magnet on the filter to catch any metal. I plan on changing it again at 3500 miles and going to Mobil 1. I am also dumping all of my other fluids and replacing with redline synthetic at 3500 also.......

I've read a lot about this. It is less important today than in
years past, but it is still a good idea to do the first oil change
at 1000 miles. There are tiny, tiny specks of metal in it.

There is no question that synthetic oil is better than traditional
oil. I've read conflicting things about when to switch over, but
to be on the safe side, I'm waiting till about 10,000 miles.
