Default Quiz about interior noise

I recently test drove a 350Z and found the interior noise level, particularly on interstate, to be very loud. I drove a '78 280z for 18 years and don't remember that much road noise. The '96 Pathfinder I currently drive is quieter.

Has anyone installed dynamat, brown bread or another of the sound deadening products and found a dramatic reduction of road noise?

Yeah, it's kinda noisy. But if ya think it was bad, wait until your tires start to feather. The nosie level then is even louder. I was at my dealer today getting an oil change and arranging a service appointment for another new set of fronts. I asked how could we fix this feathering problem, assuming I'd get the same "Nissan is working on it" response. The service guy said, "Buy an '05?"

We both had a laugh, thats prolly what I'm gonna do early next year.

I applied liquid Fatmat as a sound deadener inside the rear hatch, around the rear strut bar, above the muffler, and in the wheel wells and it made a huge difference, as you say a dramatic reduction in road noise, a much more enjoyable ride and well worth the effort.

I used liquid stuff but from a company called Second Skin Audio

I applied it all in the hatch area. In the 2 compartments behind the seats and in the doors. really helped with the road noise..

Used about 2gallons... thats about 18lb worht of weight added. worht it tho... It has no smell and dries dark grey....

EASY to apply to!

Exactly. It's not a luxury car; it's a true sports car. I 86'd the passenger seat, the spare tire, and jack 45 minutes after taking delivery. I didn't buy this car to take my grandma to the general store.

Yea from what i heard nissan did this on purpose.same reason they just made it a 2 seater....i hate it when people complain about room.like when they compare the Z to the rx8 ,they give the rx8 the edge cuz of the extra seats...it makes my blood boil....nissan didn't add seats in the rear(thank god) on purpose,Should have thought about that before you bought it.I'll admit it is noisy but i like that you can hear the v6.

Just because it's a sports car does not mean it can't be quiet inside, now I can listen to music without ear damage, to each his own.

i did a very cheap fix that worked quite well. this is after i bought some dynamat which in my opinion was way too expensive to do such a crappy job.

what i did was went to my local dollar store and bought some 5 dollar twin bed egg crate foam, the stuff you sleep on on your mattress. bought two of them and then lined the spare tire well in the fashion that the first layer went crate side up and then the second layer went crate side down to create an air pocket area. much like the areas inside a theater or sound studio. did a very nice deading job. i even put the spare tire back in and then covered everything back up with the trunk plastic thingy and then the carpet. cant even tell its in there.

I bought an injen exhaust; now the only noise I hear is the exhaust when I want; or the radio. no more road noise.

If I want to hear road noise or my exhaust, I'll roll down my windows. There is nothing better than a stealth car - lightening fast but very subtle about it and very liveable.

And less interior noise means you can hear the motor that much better, and that's one sweeeeeeeeeet sound!

You think a stock one is loud, you should ride in mine sometime. haha

(S/C, cams, headers, true dual exhaust, etc.)

I'm so used to my previous heavily modded evo8, but this car is quiet as hell compared to that. My tires are feathering to hell too, and the road noise from those are so much less than my Yoko advans on my evo

Backup everyone...

Buweet, did you drive a new or used one? You might have driven one with worn tires like I did. Sounded like a monster truck.

Do you recall the mileage? Was it louder when braking?
