Question 2003 Z Track - Tire Pressure Sensor

Newbie here. I just got a black 2003 Z Track yesterday and I'm still grinning. This site/forum has been really great for learning more about the car and others' experiences. I appreciate all of the discussions/topic (and I did search for this question before posting ).

I'm taking the car in later this week to have them look at some warranty items: (1) the e-brake seems to be a little weak, (2) the cloth base of the shifter is torn, and (3) the digital tire pressure reading is blank.

I don't have the owner's manual so my question is: Is there anything special you need to do to get the tire pressure reading? It just shows up as " - - " for each of the readings.

I test drove a Porsche Boxster yesterday and had to pull up the e-brake in order to open the roof. Are there any requirements like that to get the tire pressure to display in the digital readout?

Thank in advance!

Does the car have aftermarket wheels? If so, it's likely that the sensors have been removed, which would explain the blank read-out. $225 a piece is the cost to replace them.

Note that in a normally functioning TPS system, the readout will be blank when you are at a stop because the switch on the sensors is motion activated, so they shut off after a few seconds of no rotation. If the car is stock, leave the computer set to display the sensor readings while you are driving and see what happens.

Ah, maybe I wasn't patient enough. I still don't think it gave a reading after driving around a bit. But let me try again.

Oh wait. I think they may be aftermarket rims. After trying to find a Track to see the stock rims, I came across these:

Are those the stock Track rims?

Mine are more like these: (but in Gun Metal):

Let me go check the name on them. I didn't realize that they weren't stock. Being 18" I just assumed.

Yeah, if you have a Track and your wheels don't look like pictureA, then you probably don't have the TPS sensors installed....There are aftermarket "band" kits that wrap around the hub of the wheel to secure the sensor in place. I will definitely do that when my aftermarket wheels go on.

Good luck!

It's the joy of computers, my friend. The Volks aren't real yet, either. Even had to "paint" in the discs and calipers. Figured I'd support my local perf. shop though!!!

I kinda like 'em. I really had thought about doing something like this next summer once the new shoes and the F/I are on the car. Just something different. Having seen the cars on the cover of this months Turbo mag. in person, I kinda like the graphics. Just have to find the right ones for my car...

kcobean - Thanks very much for your help! I'm new to the Z family so I just assumed they were stock. After looking into it, I have these:
