Racing Schools
What kind of school are you looking into? I know Skip Barber's out in Pomona along with Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School. Both are top notch! (I've done both.) Driving 101 is very good, but it's only going around in a circle, which isn't all too exciting.
I'm sure you can do a search on the internet and find some more in your area.
But my very top recomendation for overall driving is by far Skip Barber!

Again, it depends on which school and your focuses are. Skip Barber has several different packages if I remember correctly.
Here's a link to their site:

Hopefull it will help! You can also PM me if you have any questions about the experience, instructors, etc!

Cost depends on the track and which organization is organizing the performance driving school. It's not worth the $3K to pay for a racing school like Skip Barber unless you already have a decent amount of track experience. Sadly enough, these schools will even give you a provisional lisence after 3 days?
Check with SCCA, NASA, or another car clubs to see if they're having a high performance driving education (HPDE, HPDS, etc). The ones that NASA-VA organizes are usually between $250-300 for the weekend, and they have about 10 HPDEs in the Mid-Atlantic each year. Keep in mind that it takes many track events before you start getting "competitive."
John, who will be at Summit Point this weekend...

I know of a couple of "beginners" classes that really aren't too much. True, the expensive 3 day schools are much more beneficial after you've had a lot of racing experience, but they really do try to cater to everyone.

I have been through all the major racing schools and there is no doubt that you will learn more here in one day than you will in 3 or 4 at the big name schools. This is the #1 kart racing school in the country run by Jim Hall II, son of the famous Chaparell racecar designer; Jim Hall. Best of all, I think an entire day runs less than $400!
