Psssh... you all are honestly giving the new 05 GT's too much credit. I'm a previous (99 V6) mustang owner for 4 years until I bought my Z. In fact, when I went out looking for cars, I had my heart set on one of the new 05 GT's but after finding out that they were nearly impossible to come across, and when I did find one, they wanted $5000 ontop of MSRP, I said screw it. I did however manage to test drive one, and the car certainly did not feel like the Z. No, I wasn't punching the GT -- it was the only one they had, and it was loaded in black-on-black, so the salesman came with me. Even still.. we're talking a *Ford* Mustang vs. a 350Z. I hate to knock on the car since I had mine for so long ( was my first car ) and I loved it, it's just seriously... there's no competition here.

If you think about it, they're totally different cars in terms of style

the GT is really old muscle car influenced

the Z is futuristic influenced

both are cool in their own right and I bet they'd be pretty close in a drag race. Probably 100% dependant on driver skill.

supposivly the GT has pretty decent suspension now

the gt is a low 13 second car from the early reports. Whats weird is almost every person that posts up about what they are running are pulling very quick 60's. Im talking like mid to high 1.8s. The most recent et i saw was a 13.25 @103. looks like they are off the line champs with that et/mph. I am very interested to see how they will handle in the curves, the new suspension is suppose to be pretty sweet

Ive seen mags that also give both cars 5.2 0 to 60 times.
That really makes sense to me. The Gt has more power but the Z has less weight.
Who knows. I can tell you this, The Z looks alot better than the mustang and to me thats what counts.

i like them both. plus looks are subjective, try to sound more like an enthusiast and not like a fanboy

edit: in stock form i agree though, a z is more appealing to me, but some of the minor tweaks and wheels swaps for the stang make me like it better. I dont like it when people try to change the body of the z but some wheels really set it off

You need to decide what you want. An import or a domestic ... the Ford will also offer a bigger interior and trunk space.

It is all about preference, but I cannot make a decision until I drive the new stang.

I might sound like a fanboy but if i do its just because i truely love the Z.
I owned mustang Gts for 10 years straight and learnt to drive in a 5 speed gt so trust me when i say I have much respect for the mustang crowd.
Facts are still facts, The new mustang doesnt come close to the look of the Z.
Id also dare say the Z is a better built car.

Just like the GTs that are going out the new GTs die at higher speeds. From s stop the Z has no chance the GTs are monsters. But at highway speeds the tables turn. The gearing once again kills them at speed.

Stock for stock a Z should lose in the 1/4 mile, I believe, with equal drivers.

It'll be interesting to see how that solid rear axle handles the corners. Early reports are generally positive, but I want to go against one on a road course.

THe latest Road & Track Mag. reported a 5.3 0-60, 13.9 1/4 mile, and a 0.83 on the skid pad for the 05 GT Mustang.

they shold be good fine, the car makes power higher in the revs and has a little more rear end gear. The 3v head flows very good, i dont know where you get that they die at higher speeds. Hell a 2v like mine with a few boltons and a tune trap 104-6 in the quarter and thats good enough to roll with any NA z Ive seen.
