Cup of water in the car? You must have watched the anime Initial D! I know it's a cartoon (anime) but for those that haven't seen it, it's about a young boy street (mountain drift )racing in Japan. He's got some tough competition but becomes the best. Any racing fan would like it.

Anyway, took all your tips and hints and tried it last night and I feel a little bit more confident and I'm more smooth now. Thanks for all your replies, you guys really helped me!

Still adjusting to the friction point so here's another question, when I'm trying to move into a parking spot, the only way to get into the spot slowly is to put it in 1st gear and slowly maneuver it in and balancing the clutch?

Again, I'm new to driving manual so this might seem like a really stupid question, but thanks in advance for your tips!

initial D rules ... still trying to get my hands on an official copy... they have a lot of fakes available, but have yet to come across an official import from japan

as for parking - yup... essentially it's a lesson in riding the clutch. Nothing much you can do about that, unless you want to catapult your car back and forth by fully engaging first.... same goes for reverse (which is WAY too tall for my liking --- what was nissan thinking... who the heck wants to go 50 mph in reverse? they should've geared it like first... but that's a different story altogether)

shift faster if you want to chirp the tires during a 1-2 shift

you could also try sidestepping the clutch (e.g. throw your foot to the left instead of easing *up* off the clutch like a regular shift)... but make sure you practice this in a wide empty street or parking lot first

Strife350Z, have you looked at Pacific Mall? I would think they would have it there.

As you change the engine (be it FI, flywheel, clutch, etc.), you'll notice that RPMs drop faster/slower (mostly faster) between upshifts, making it necessary to shift slightly faster for smooth shift, or add a little throttle between shifts.

My revs seem to drop extremely fast in my 05, does anybody know why or is it the light driveshaft and all that?

(comparing to several years ago, I had a, ehem, LOL, manual Ford Escort)
