wuts VDC...?
wuts VDC???
i saw this drifting clip from internet...(350z manual/auto)
and they tested one with VDC on and one with VDC off...
do you prefer if you are getting AT 350z?

VDC stands for "Vehicle Dynamic Control". It's a system that allows the car to apply braking selectively to each wheel as appropriate and/or throttle in an attempt to correct a loss of traction and/or off-line (i.e. vehicle not pointing in the direction it's traveling in) condition. I have no idea how you would drift with this system turned on. In my car with VDC on, if I enter a corner and just step on the gas, the VDC system will literally kill the throttle. I've never gotten it far enough offline that it started braking for me. if I'm in the mood to drive like that, I turn VDC off.

That's actually a really good question. I *believe* the answer is that it's the VDC. The reason I say that is because with the VDC system on, my car will automatically reduce throttle in a slip condition, (i.e. I can't drift in a corner using throttle to steer the backend). If I push the button to turn VDC off, I can break the backend loose and throttle steer all day long.
The unknown variable is whether or not turning off VDC also turns off TCS. If so, then I'll bet you're right, it's TCS, not VDC killing the throttle. In any case, that's a darn good question.
Anyone else know the answer to this?
I have a question too, I have an 03 touring and on the side of the steering wheel, I have the TCS off button, but there's a blank next to it and no VDC off button. Does this mean my touring model is not equipted with VDC? If so, I can't believe it wouldn't considering the previous owner of my car got it fully loaded (GPS, heated leather, etc.).
VDC sucks in Nissan / Infiniti cars. It's SO intrusive. I always turn it off, unless it's raining or snowing. But then, I don't drive like an idiot under those conditions anyway.
VDC off is fun in the FX45 on snow. Heh..

Automatics don't have VDC.
The TCS is "level 1 VDC" - it controls wheelspin.
the VDC is "level 2 VDC" - it controls wheelspin and cornering dynamics (yaw control).
The VDC is an improvement on TCS, hence only the VDC button.

TCS on the other hand is only traction control. It's not nearly as sophisticated as VDC. In either case, it's very intrusive, and I choose to disable it under most road conditions.
There are instances, when I'm cornering really hard, and VDC detects slight slippage, it cuts power to the engine and starts braking some of the wheels. Rather intrusive. In theory, you shouldn't need VDC on a 4-wheel drive vehicle. But there it is.

car handles soo much better even when driving in a parking lot slow

Jason, does your Z now drive more like a Base/Enthusiast when driving slow? What does VDC do when you drive slow? Thanks in advance.
