Default Does the Nav system play regular DVD's?

I know that it is a DVD-ROM for the GPS DVD's of the US but can it play regular DVD's also. I don't see any play buttons on the Nav face so I am assuming as such.

Also, if I was to add this on next year do you think it would still cost the $1999 it does during production?

Thanks,
Craig

I sure am hoping some group comes out with an aftermarket head unit that:
plays regular DVDs,
hooks into car diagnostic computer in real-time,
adjusts stereo equalization in real-time depending upon cabin-noise condition,
can feed information to the stereo so I can carry 4.7GB of MP3s.
