The Z is a sports car not a GT cruiser. It needs to shrink by 10% in length, get 10% wider and probably 15% less portly.
The 3.7 from the G should be more than enough at 3k pounds. After that, it's time for a look into the future or cylinder management for economy, and on-demand turbocharging.
I see back to the 3.0 in the future, once gas hits $8 a gallon.

Non-revup 05
Revup 06
HR 07
Nope Nissan doesnt change motors by the year
G37 = 350 Cousin = Will get VQ37 Asap...possibly track model 08's maybe the whole MT line....its anyones guess but try to at least stick to the facts....nissan has changed the motor every year for the past 3 years in a row....whats one more before a complete redesign? Especially since it would revamp Z sales which havent been the best lately

The FWD sedans are getting power that's becoming overkill. I don't mind a "sport" trim of a sedan with more thrust, while the rest have practical power and improved fuel economy.
Look at the domestics. The typical sedans are moving up to V8s with 400HP and whatnot.
Back then, driving a 300HP (Z32-TT) felt great and everyone was amazed by it's power. Nowadays, 300HP is weak sauce when a Camry or Accord can run just as fast.

Fuel economy shouldn't be much of an issue anyways. You can afford a $30k car, there's no reason you should be worried about a few mpg here and there for some more hp (even though that compromise has yet to be the case).

Why doesn't Nissan just put it out what the '08 Z is going to offer? If they don't, then we speculate on it getting 330hp but when they roll out unchanged from '07, we'll be disappointed.

The 3.7 is the new HR motor anyways with a higher displacement. Also, Nissan does change motors one year after another. Look what happened between 05->06->07. And techically, the 3.7 will not be a "new" motor from the existing HR.
Only the G coupe has the 3.7
The G sedan still keeps the 3.5
