Why Nissan made a big mistake not putting the 3.7L in the 08 Z...

A new design will look great but idk why everyone is so crazy about the new engine, its not like its going to run 12's stock.

Something else to consider..Nissan will not make the 350 , 370 , or if you believe in rumors 400 Z (2012) competition for the GTR. Regardless of price and power level, the GTR wil take the place of the Z in terms of flagship status for the American market. Don't expect too much in terms of development on the Z after its release. Also the VS series of engines are designed to be a universal engine platform for many types of vehicles not just a "sports car." Therefore this engine will probably never be more than 350hp regardless of displacement based on head design and packaging limitations.

Nissan need not worry about the Z cannibalizing GT-R sales. If they can market it right then they can sell both alongside one another. If Porsche can sell the Boxster/Cayman and the 911, Nissan can sell the Z and the GT-R (although Cayman sales have slumped lately). Nissan knows enough IMO about marketing. They've managed to move Zs and G35 Coupes both without hiccups over the past 5 years and I can still recall when people were questioning the decision to sell both cars here back in '03 claiming that "2 door sports cars and coupes were dead" and that "both cars would cannibalize sales of the other." We all saw how that one turned out.

You have been hanging around for 4 years. Apparently the 350Z is not for you. Stop trying to make the Z fit your needs, and get something else.

First off, what is this "VS" engine you speak of? And BTW, the 3.7L HR in the '08 G Coupe is already up to 330hp. I doubt your 350hp limit will stand for long. And if you count the JDM Fairlady Z Type 380 RS, well then that number has already been reached. As for the VQ, the HR variants AFAIK are currently only setup for longitudinal applications i.e. RWD cars i.e. sporty applications. Seeing as the all new '07 Altima did NOT receive the HR while every new RWD Nissan/Infiniti has (Z, G Sedan, G Coupe, EX etc...), I'd say it's fair to assume that Nissan is at least attempting to put some distance between the V6 that goes into its FWD vehicles versus the one that goes into its RWD vehicles.

First of all let me apologise for the mis key in "VQ." Secondly, Comparing the Porsche products to Nissan is hardly an apples to apples comparison given pricepoint cirteria and brand mistique. As for my Hp prediction, I have to stand by what I stated. I was speaking of the American market and not the JDM. I hope I am wrong and would like to see Nissan continue to improve on a great car.

I have confidence that Nissan will push the VQ/HR/XX engine past the 350HP mark in the next iteration. But by then, the Z's weight will probably be pushing 3600 lbs, so the additional hp will still be a moot point.

You're stating the obvious about the GTR being the new flagship. No one will argue that.
I can't see why anyone would think development would slow or stop on the Z because of the release of the GTR. Every manufacturer of every model in their lineup has to continually develop their cars or they risk almost guaranteed obsolescence or death of the product. The two models are significantly apart in performance and expected price.
The VQ engine has currently migrated to a new HR variant which for now is only used in rear drive applications. Nothing says that won't continue and engine size or variation won't also evolve making for bigger gains. I don't know how anyone can predict a specific horsepower limit of 350 in a future brand new car because of current "head design and packaging limitations". The VQ doesn't even use direct injection yet which offers further potential.
