Default Why Nissan made a big mistake not putting the 3.7L in the 08 Z...

In 08 there are many high hp, relatively cheap cars coming...

Challenger, Camaro, 135i, EVO, STI, possibly a toyota sports car.

If they would have decided to put the 3.7L in the 08 model then they would have been ahead of the curve and could have swayed some buyers away from those upcoming cars to the Z. Instead, they will be coming in late in the game next year. Sadly, I am one of those buyers who would buy an 08 w/ the 3.7L instead of a 135, or challenger. Now I'll just pick up a base model 135 in March.

Though I won't be buying an 08 or 09, I would love to see them eliminate the shifter vibration and abrupt clutch engagement. It would make the car much more fun to drive.

If you don't like shifter vibration, you should stay away from all sport cars with manual trannies. I've driven porsches, corvettes, mustangs, camaros, bmws and all of them have shifter vibrations.. Maybe you need to get FWD and use shift linkages for no vibrations.

Some of those cars you mentioned are not coming out till 09. Also, if Nissan did this for 08, they would have taken sales away from the G37 Coupe. The 350z will not be changing till 2011 anyways engine or design.

^+1 the shifter vibration people so often mention is such a minor issue. It barely vibrates. Driving properly your hand moves to the shifter, completes the shift and moves back to the steering wheel. You only touch the shifter for a brief instant. How can that really bother someone?

The abrupt clutch and high engagement point is much more annoying.

Put the magazines down son. That's no way to shop for a new vehicle. All 6 of the cars you mentioned aren't even available for a test drive yet. I doubt you've driven any of their predecessors either or you wouldn't be talking about abrupt clutch engagement or shifter vibration.

I don't even know what he is talking about with abrupt clutch and shifter vibrations, mine has been fine since new, did things change for the worse or is this the only thing anyone can find wrong with the Z now that it has been refined over the years.

Also, the first model year cars you listed, you don't even know what their problems will be, but you've got to know they'll have them and they could be worse than whatever you think is wrong with the Z.

Lastly, Nissan seems to be good at sharing what they want to share and not what they don't. Remember, it is all about sales, if sales stay where they want them, there is no need for an upgrade, so they might as well save possible upgrades for when they need a bump. Besides, just because Nissan has not announced a 370Z, does not mean they can't put one together for a mid model year change or 2009.

I think he has crazy stiff coil-overs so he's experiencing every bump on the road, hence the vibrating shifter

Anywho, Nissan is already bringing out the G37 and GT-R in 2008 so a new fairlady Z would be a dumb marketing move.

I don't think I would agree with that. Those cars are targeting completely different audiences than the Z.

However, there is probably a resource limitation where they can't do it all at once. But, the Z does need a refresh, or sales will drop pretty sharply with the new infusion of competition.

More years in production = more years for product development for the 35HR motor. Something tells me VHR parts are going to cost a hell a bundle.

One more thing to consider : they have quite an investment on 350Z branding which would have to change to 370Z branding... Somehow, to me, 350Z sounds better than 370Z, no?

I still get the feeling its going to be heavier, and for a 3.7 liter engine?.... unless they tune it differently for the Z.... 24 more hp and 2 lb tq over the 3.5HR isnt going to feel like much specially if i gets heavier. A new design will look great but idk why everyone is so crazy about the new engine, its not like its going to run 12's stock.

lol...stupid nissan, if they just woulda kept it the 240Z for the last 35 years they would have sold so many more.



and the car is still selling relatively well enough to sustain another model year. The body style is classic and the overall package in the segment is still competitive if not still at the top.

Our car is called the "Z". The 350 moniker is a reference to engine size. Just as when the original "Z" was released the 240 referred to an engine with 240 cc's. Therefore the next "Z" will only differ in displacement..no??
