New Z = Refined, so why wait to buy?
I agree that it's typically wise to wait until a cars 2nd or 3rd year of production to allow time to fix little problems that arise, and for possible upgrades.
So for the purpose of this thread, assume you love the look of the new (updated) Z car and you have the funds to buy it. What's going to be so new about the new Z that would have you wait for a 2nd year of production before purchasing?
I'm asking because I'm considering buying the new Z car (if I like the looks). Personally, from what I've seen, it doesn't look like Nissan is making any fundamental changes. Sure it's wider, shorter, and has a new, already proven engine, but what else may be new? Electronics will or should be the same, mechanically the car will be the same. They didn't reinvent the wheel here, so what's the worry?
I know hind sight is 20/20 and some problems can occur without being able to foresee them, but I just wanted to create an area of discussion on this issue.

Usually you would wait for 2nd year for the bugs and kinks to get worked out. However, Nissan these days really know what they're doing and I don't think there will be any issues. For example, the G37 has been quite problem free. the new 370Z is just using old engine/drive train so I wouldn't worry.
Tire feathering.
To the best of my knowledge not many g35 or japanese 350z had this problem. But the American z had the problem for a couple years before it was fixed. Even though the platform, engine, and possilbly transmission are not brand new i'm waiting until the 2nd year before i purchase the 370z.
Whenever i take the z in for service it is bound to get scratched up by the dealership. I prefer to never take it in for tsb, etc.

Did they fix this for the 08 model year? If not, Nissan must not think it's a big deal. Obviously this would be annoying for any owner of a new car.

Their was a recall for the first few 07z's that were made. 08 does not have this problem.
Edit: Also, Nissan is changing the bumper and headlights which is a pretty steep change. Also the sides seeing from the renderings. I will still be buying an 08 in a few weeks.

If you buy the first year 370Z, then its more likely that Nissan will use CURRENT parts which have been PROVEN. In later years, they may add new drive train which is even more problematic.

2008 seems to have no problems yet. And no, first production majority of the time gives more problems than the last. Your choice. Even if you do plan on getting the first production model you will also be waiting atleast another 6+ months for it.

I will likely be purchasing the first year of the 370Z. I'm not as worried because the new FM platform and drive train have been put through their paces in a full production car already via the G37. Severe mechanical recalls are far less likely.
The 370 is going to be a huge improvement in a lot of areas over the outgoing 350, especially when I consider my priorities in a car. Likely the 370 will have a little less cargo space as they've shortened the wheelbase and moved the drivers compartment back. The weight savings though should be pretty significant, lending itself to . The interior is supposed to be (and judging from the spy shot will be) on par with the price point. The new features, such as Nissan's keyless entry and start system will also be a pretty cool factor. I've also been one who wasn't very quick to hate the new design, waiting for a time where I could really judge what Nissan was planning. From the looks of it, they're creating a very aggressive coupe.
All of this makes the wait worth it to me.

Get the '08 version. It has the fixed slave cylinder and the same style of the '07. You'll pay less and you won't have to live with the looks of the 370Z. I personally think they are on the verge of ruining the looks of the car. I think the '07 and '08 are the best years. Not just because I own an '07.
The only thing i would wait for is getting the deal ($$) you want. Being a redesign and a "better" car, the dealers wont want to deal unless the economy is still in the crapper, and the cars are sitting on the lots.
