Who in their right mind would walk into a nissan showroom next year and pick up a 08 350z roadster over the 09 370z coupe.

Porsche sold the 996 911 turbo right alongside the 997 911 for more than year until the 997 911 turbo was ready. What Nissan will be doing is not really that unusual: "The new convertible won't be out for another year, but hey, we've got this older body style convertible right over here...."

Mitsubishi did this recently with their Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder (convertable). ZZtop is right, it's not an uncommon practice.

Actually, looking at the new 370Z, I'm trying to picture a convertable and it's pretty difficult.

LOL This forum is starting look like some BMW forums when everyone was waiting for the 328/335 and M3.

At there is still at least 4 more months to go for the Z34 etc..

Yeh good point but don't forget the 350z roadster isn't everyones cup of tea, in your examples the opposite car still looked great. Guess I just wasn't a fan of the long back end of the 350 roadster, hopefully the 370 roadster looks better.

Nissanis doing it with G35/G37. With an estimated sticker @ $35,000, offering the 350Z will still enable them to sell NEW Z's to price sensitive persons who may not care about the extras the newer more expensive model will offer.

Of course it is possible that, like the new Maxima when you add up the new cars standard equipment that was optional on the previous generation, you come out a little ahead or just about even.

If you are referring to the two versions of one model, BMW still sold the E46 M series when the new E92 came out.

Mitsubishi sold the older 2006 Evos while selling the new base lancer for a while.

They may be doing this because they need more time to do the desing on the new roadster, since it's been rumored to be a hard top roadster.....waits for in.the.dark to chime in.......

Ok.

Well, you are right, it would make sense from a development time angle, and this would be consistent with the Z4 (370Z competitor) being offered in a hard top, and the G37 is likely to receive the hard-top-vert treatment as well. Couple that with the increasing popularity of the hard top, I'd say it's a possibility, but not certain.

Are you serious? I'd really prefer the hardtop 370Z over a soft top .... come on Nissan ..... throw us a bone! I doubt I could wait for a 370z hard top and will likely just jump on the coupe

Has anyone seen the latest MotorTrend? Is it just me or is it odd that they say the 370Z should have between 340-360 HP in 2010??

I find it odd because in the paragraph, they talk about the Z possible dropping next year with 330-340 HP, but then make the above remark... Am I reading into this too much...?

"Should have" and "will have" are two different things. I think what MT is trying to say is that they'd like to see the new Z with 340-360 HP.
