Will 370Z cheapen 350Z Pre-Owned Market?
I looked through the first couple pages of this forum and couldn't find anyone talking about it. I love owning my Z because it has that certain "hey this dude has a really nice / expensive car" appeal to it. Not that its really true because my girlfriends 07 Camry SE V6 cost the same but in the Z i finally get a car thats out of range for most High school and college kids. With the 370z being released are we going to see the 350z used car market plummet into the affordability range of younger car buyers? Will we be seeing a whole slew of 350z's with neons, huge subs, and fart cans strapped to em?
I'm not trying to be pretentious, but I know some of you are thinking the same as me. Im not saying HS and college kids suck but im out of that age bracket now and like the idea of having a car that is too. I love driving my Z and would be sad to see it hit the RICE scene.

I have to to disagree trebien. I like the notion and emotion that my car is unique even if the community is a very visible one... But as of lately it seems as if the community is going down hill. I hate these giant none functional wings glued on the Z and the 20 inch chrome rims ... Ugh... The 370 is becoming more and more appealing because of its stance on maintaining the originality for which the Z is set apart from other vehicles such the the older sti and evo. The Z maintains that sexy quiet aggressiveness It is my opinion that if the resale value of the Z continues to plummet as it has been steadily doing for the the past few years the Z community will undoubtedly go the way of the civic
Imo it started quite a while ago..
Yup agreed who cares what people think.
Tho in regards to your "any car can hit the rice scene"? True...But in reality you know as well as I that (pardon the pun)rice boils down to.. Civic's, sentra's, neons etc etc.. Simple fact is those types of owners are mainly young people who don't have much money.
Hence why you don't see many ricer porsche drivers.

I must admit im only 28 and i picked up a 2003 with 54k miles for only $17k with all intentions of building a decent track car. But with a run of bad luck lately (job loss + medical bills sucks ***) i feel as though i now haven fallen into the younger drivers without much money category.
Guess I'll have to trade the Z for a Sentra...

Well owning a 2003 with 87K miles, i know how much my car is worth, and i know it is in the price range for plenty of teens who have a steady job and have no other bills. Sure they might cant afford a brand new 30 grand car, but they sure can afford a used model that looks 95% the same as the current 2008 model.
Just like every other car, when a new model comes out, the old will be pushed aside dropping the value.
Another thing you have to realize is the average price of a car is close to 30 grand already. You really cant be pretentious about driving a Z, period. Its an average priced car in todays world. I can say i owned this car when it was elite, having one of the first in the US, back in 2002. I feel no different about the car today as i did then. Its one hell of a car and it still makes me excited to drive it. That all that matters to me.

Fixed.
Ah, couldn't resist.
But seriously, it's just a car. The bottom line is how much do you care what others think? If you start to care too much what other people think, you'll find yourself in a constant state of unhappiness as you constantly compare yourself to the outside world.
Possessions do NOT make the man... not in my world.

not all cars hit the rice world... most high schoolers wouldnt dare to rock a NSX, 993 Porsche 911. You should pick up a classic if you are worried about the car turning into the next civic.
i understand it from the age perspective. however, i own a g35 coupe and though the car has bee replaced by the g37, i still can't let my car go. i see the car from any angle, it has 49,000 hard driven miles on it and drives brand new. i feel the 350z is just as good looking and just b/c the new models come out, it really all comes down to how the car makes you feel. honestly, when u drive your car down the highway and some teenager races past you, do u feel the need to prove anything?
sorry man Z's are already affordable to the "crowd" you don't want to be associated with. 03s can be seen for the 12ks in some cases..
the saving grace is most younger kids can't afford insurance on it unless their parents are spoiling them. it is not a cheap car to insure for most people until you have a proven driving record in your mid 20s.

That and there still are a few responsible parents that don't want their kids to have ~300 hp cars as a first car.

Well G35's have been 1 of the top ten cars that hold there value well for a few years now thats why its that way in their case!
It's not official but according to an interview with the designer, the 370Z will be priced between $37 and 48K. I don't think that will drive the price down on 350Z's but actually raise them.
Infinity G37 Journey Model is going for 36k around my block
The 370 Z has grown up in materials, price and target it seems. Looks like the 240/silvia upcoming replacement may take over the 350z's price range mission as the entry level affordable Nissan sports car???Pure speculation but it makes you think so if the price range for the 370z is indeed 37k-48k..yikes...48k will soon be used C6 Z06 territory.....Hmmmmmmmm
