Here is the current break down for weight of 350z:

Base 3320

Enthusiast 3327

Touring 3376

Grand Touring 3381

NISMO 3353

The wheelbase of 370z is about 99.5", which is 4.6% shorter than 350z. And although more weight is in the front, let's assume it's a lenear reduction, than the new weight of 370z would be:

Base 3167

Enthusiast 3173

Touring 3220

Grand Touring 3225

NISMO 3198

but wasn't the stance of the 370z widened? therefore adding weight down the sides of the car....

I'm not sure what you mean by "feels like". Physical laws have no feeling.

All things being equal, a 3100 lb car will handle better (i.e., start, stop, and turn better) than a car weighing 3300 lbs.

So the M3 handled better than the GTR... Not so says the testers....

While I agree with your point that it feels lighter than it is (even now) everything besides weight is not equal between the GTR an the M3.

I think the point is that a 3000 lb. GTR would handle much better than a 3600 lb. GTR.

"All things equal" means you only change one variable -- in this case, the weight.

Agreed. I am just staying that even if the Z wieghs more, it does not mean it would still seriously beat on on the competition in real world conditions and on the track. While the concept of 'all things being equal' does not completely apply to the below examples, just think of the weight difference... Which handles better??

Miata or Vette???
S13 240SX or RX7???
Z4 or R8???
WRX or RS4???
Speculaed: GT500 or Camaro??? (new)

Weight is key, but can be overcome if not too out of line with technology and superior chasis and suspension design and parts. That is what I am saying.

And for the standard wwight given by manufacturers, there is a proceedure for calculating them that includes fluid levels and such. So an individual weighing the car will no doubt have different results unless they adhere strickly to the process.
