Simplified Lineup...Happy with it?
It wasn't me comparing... it was that other guy. I was just trying to make sense of it, and being a smarta$$ in the process, because a new performance pkg Vette will be no where near the price of a 370Z.
Yeah, that was kind of the point I was headed to also, it's not apples to apples, unless he knows a secret I don't.
Guy I work with has a '07 Z06. I didn't have a lot of respect for Vette's in many ways before, but that car is top notch....and the interior isn't bad either.
Unfortunately, the option packages for the Z will continue to be out of control. There's already a $12k difference between a base model 2008 Z and a loaded Grand Touring. That's way too much of a difference.
All that said, the best value would probably be a base+sports if you can live without the luxury crap.

Considering it's only two seats in the car, leather and heat should really be like a $1,000 package, but they'll equip it with a bunch of other crap in a package and make the entry level Z with heat and leather a good $4-5k higher than a base model.
All Vettes come with leather, but in their case you also need a pretty expensive package to get heated seats.
Let's hope the Touring model price stays around the same at $34k and adding the sports package is around $2k. $36k for a sports package with all the regular luxury features (no NAV) like leather, heat, blue tooth, bose, homelink etc. would be pretty good. $38k with NAV = good. We'll see...

New Vette's can be had for under $40k with the rebates on them. Of course this is 1LT (base), but a Vette is still well loaded with the base package. The sports pacakge (Z51) is like only $1,500 so I bet it could be had for still under $40k on the right day. The Z51 package is great and one of the best car values on the market. Upgraded suspension, brakes, and rear-end/gear for $1,500.

Edit: With the new Z you get 75% of the performance of a Corvette for 95% of its price!!! Wow, lets all line up for it.

Umm...all this, what he said, yeah. Its right on. Ive been pricing NEW Vettes lately. A LOADED 08 Z is a couple grand shy of a base Vette WITH the Z51 package. So the 370 with all the toys im thinking low to mid 40K. Hence my reason for researching the Vette. The "NEW" Z, if you even call it that, is no longer the best bang for the buck. To bad too, cuz I REALLY want to embrace it.

Base Z + Sport = ~$33k
Baze Vette + Z51 = ~$40k
This is not comparing stickers but comparing what sort of everyday prices are out there
Loaded Z = $43k (Sport + Touring + Nav)
Loaded Vette = $49k (3LT + Z51 + Nav)
These are estimates, but you can pretty much get $8k off a Vette no matter how it's configured, so that $57k Vette comes 49k, base comes to under $40K.
Either way it's about a $6k difference between comparable models. That's still a VERY TOUGH PILL TO SWALLOW.
Vette = 436HP + 3150 LBS, 12.5 second 1/4s with the LS3, Considerably Roomier and Much larger trunk
I'd say the Vette is more reliable too just based on research I've done and the overall simplicity of its design versus the Z which has all sorts of high-tech/new stuff (brand new transmissions, relatively new engine, etc.) The Vette gets as good if not better mileage, in my opinion looks better, and is in another class of performance (straight line and track).
Both cars have great heritage, but the Vette has stuck to its lineage much better than the Z. They both have negative stereotypes (mullet vs. boyracer).
Being that a 370Z can't be bought used for a while, the best VALUE is picking up a used 3LT LS3 Z51 2008 Corvette. I've seen some sub-10k mile ones selling for $36-39k; that's a SMOKING value.
I do think Nissan has closed the performance gap to some degree, and we've yet to see how the Z does on the track, but the Vette still represents the best sports car value on the market PERIOD. CarandDriver agrees with me as well: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...rs+page-4.html
"... the standard Corvette coupe and convertible continue to deliver a level of performance and style that’s unbeatable for the money. "
PS my loaded 43k price is based on what many people here are speculating. I'm holding out that the stickers is $38k.
$30k base
+ 3k sport
+ 3k touring
+ 2k nav
At $38k it's tough to compare to a 3LT. The deal breaker for me might be that freaking Euro brake light butthole on the car
