Default Simplified Lineup...Happy with it?

I really like how they simplified the lineup with the 370Z. I would have never spent the money to get a track model in the 350Z (if I were buying new)....but now all you need to do is get the sports package and you have all the performance upgrades available. I am psyched about that. What does everyone else think?

I always say simple is better, so no complaints from me. But don't forget about the upcoming Nismo version. I know I won't.

I would get a loaded sporty model, so Touring with NAV and Sport, so it doesn't matter to me. But I'm glad that you can get base models with sport pkg, for those that wish to get into it without going overboard... choice is always a good idea. This was probably one of the last things Nissan finalized, and did so due to the economy... not forcing people to upgrade to get what they want.

It's also a good little marketing advantage. The sport pkg will add weight, with the larger brakes/rotors, VLSD and front and rear spoilers... the wheels/tires will probably be negligible. Since weights are listed for the models, not the packages... it's difficult to compare curb weights with the heavier sport hardware... In the past, a sporty 350Z model would have the add'l weight listed... not now. It's a package... so when comparing weights to past models or to other manufacturers, the curb weights won't have this add'l weight included.

The real question is what will a loaded 370z cost? It seems like it'll be in the same range as the market price of a Corvette. It'll be a real hard choice. Z has the Corvette on the interior but the Corvette definitely has the Z on performance and styling.

I think it is wrong that the vlsd only comes with the sports package. I want the base to come with vsld. I don't really want the wheels, or aero parts.

I don't really think the lineup is simplified, only the enthusiast is gone. The base plus sp equals track, and touring plus sp equals grand touring.

Just out of curiousity how do you get that it will be in the same range as a Vette?

Has anyone noticed that after many interior pics have been floating out there. I have yet seen once pic that show a Stick with NAV system on it. It's always the Auto with NAV pic. Does that mean you can't get NAV with a Stick? Cuz I want both packages or you can't have both? Can someone please explain this to me or I am missing something?

Have you seen the prices on used Vettes? A 4 year old 2005 C6 is right about $30K... the base price of a 370Z.

According to the Motor Trend article, the car will start at around $30K but spike into the mid $40's for a Touring model with all the bells and whistles. Somehow I don't think this car is going to be as inexpensive as everyone is hoping. Mid $40's and you may as well start looking at other offerings.

The base with sports package cost $33k. I don't think the touring with sports package is going to be more than $36k. $36k and $45k is a big difference.

I dont see how it could jump to mid 40's fully loaded, but who knows. I'm thinking Base + Sports Package for me.

I think it's awesome that they simplified the lineup. Me personally, I'd want the performance parts that come on the "GT" model (using 350's as an example) without all the ******** that comes with the Touring (leather, heated/power seats, other ghey ****). Using packages for the specific upgrades is great.

Nissan is being smart with this car. Keep it simple. They know the economy is having an impact on new car sales. So they are not offering to many different models of the Z like they did with the 350. And most die hards will mod the car no mater what come on it new. It's a win for the Z.

Oh, USED Vettes. Okay I hear you on that one. I thought you were comparing new to new price.

Agreed.. Economics aside tho. I always thought they hurt rather than helped 350z by having too many choices.

Here's hoping they keep production numbers down this time round.

I prefer less models as well. In the end it's the same really, you can choose your options and packages as you please, pretty much like any other car maker.

What you see at the dealer though will be typically optioned cars, much like a touring, track or even base model. So again, it's really all the same.
