Default First Public Showing Of 370Z In The UK, A nissansportz exclusive.

Just thought Id post this up for you guys interested in more hands on pics. Im the media officer for nissansportz here in the UK and I thought I'd share our good fortune with you. Video to follow.

Yesterday saw the first public showing of the brand new Nissan 370Z in the UK. And we at nissansportz were proud to be the ones to have it first. It took an awful lot of planning and with the help of both Nissan UK and Nissan Europe, nissansportz were able to unveil the replacement to the 350Z to their members at the club AGM. In keeping with such an occasion the venue chosen was the Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire. The car (seen below) had been driven to the UK under cover of darkness direct from the European HQ of the Nissan Sports Division in Geneva. Still on European tradeplates the car was one of the very first production prototypes in Europe. Coming to the UK just 3 days after the official launch, gave nissansportz members an exclusive first hand viewing of what is going to be the 2 seater sports coupe of 2009.

The new design was quickly put side by side with its predecessor and it was clear to see that key qualities of the 350Z had been considered and improved upon in the new design. "This car really needs to be seen to be appreciated" said David Baker, "The photos just don't do it justice". On hand was Marshall Nissans Dealer Principle Dave Arrowsmith, who was within minutes, practically fighting off offers of deposits, until the cars official announcement in the UK.

What has been seen by the press and the pundits as an evolution rather than a revolution, can be, (when seen in the flesh) proven to be a radical and correct step in the right direction following on from the 350Z as another ground breaking design. Its size really is deceptive. It was only when placed side by side with its predecessor that it became apparent just how compact the new design is. And yet none of the qualities found in the old car have been lost. Despite increased safety regulations (which usually encounters more weight) the new 370Z manages to maintain a similar weight to the 350Z by using more aluminium components and lowers the centre of gravity over the old car. Also up is the power output from the all new 3.7 litre V6 engine.

Also expected for the first time in the UK, is an automatic version featuring a 7 speed auto 'box. Whilst prices and specification have yet to be confirmed by Nissan UK, it is clear that they are on to yet another class leading winner with the replacement to the highly acclaimed 350Z.

Stay tuned for more information over the coming days and some video footage of our time with the car.

Why does it have an INFINITI logo on the steering wheel?

I wonder why the 370 looks bigger than the 350. Can't be the camera angle...it's too far away to include both cars in the shot and they are both pretty much a profile shot.

I had the same thoughts until I saw it in person at the LA Auto Show. In photos, the 370z looks messy... at the auto show.. that same "messiness" quickly makes the 350 look outdated. In photos, the middle area of photos is too rounded out.

Reserve judgement until you see it in person. I'm sure you'll have similar thoughts.

Contrary to popular belief, the steering wheel found in the Z34 did NOT first appear on the '09 Maxima. The first vehicle the steering wheel found in the new Z appeared on was the '09 Infiniti FX. It showed up on the '09 Maxima second. The Z is the third Nissan/Infiniti product to receive this design of steering wheel. My guess is that Nissan for whatever reason needed to replace the steering wheel on the Z show car and the only one available at the time was an Infiniti unit from an FX. Don't worry, the Z isn't being sold as an Infiniti. The Nissan badge is still there on the front bumper.

The reason for the infiniti steering wheel is because this car is actually one of the first "SoP" (Start of Production) prototypes. To get a car this early in europe this is all we could get our hands on. I believe that this car was once all taped up in black and subject to alot of spy shots at Nurburg. Obviously the Infiniti badge wont make production.

Thanks for the pics. The 350z in this pic is dropped right? Cause it looks lower and also smaller than the 370z for some reason. To my eyes the 370z looks huge next to the 350z.

no its standard! This really is the thing, on paper the car is lower than the zed. In the flesh the car is lower than the zed. In pics it looks huge. I myself cant understand it. But Damo's car, the 350z always looks lower than the other 350's we think its an optical thing due to his a) dirty car ( ) and b) the black 18's

That photo really throws things out of perspective. Besides the angle, is that the fish bowl or fish eye effect?

Hmm that color versus brilliant silver... can't decide.

"fish eye". Shooting with wide angle too close to the subject. Look at the difference with a longer focal length and stepping back a few feet. I don't get why they don't just step back and open up the lens.

Compared to:

"In photography and cinematography, a wide-angle lens is a lens whose focal length is substantially shorter than the focal length of a normal lens for the image size produced by the camera"

"the image produced by a wide-angle lens is more susceptible to perspective distortion than that produced by a normal lens, because they tend to be used much closer to the subject."

Thank you for posting these picts. Looks fantastic in brilliant silver, which appears to be very close to the Chrome Silver 350Z next to it.

The photo was taken with a canon 1D MKIIn with a canon 17-40 L series lens. Those in the know will know that this is a very well respected lens with minimal distortion. It suffers from very little fisheye side effects especially on a 1.3 crop sensor. the photographic space was a little tight so forgive me for the use of such a wide angle. However I think the photographers amongst us will agree I used some of the best professional equipment available.
