Default Did anyone testdrove 7AT?

Care to share your impressions?
My Z is daily driver for me and 50% in city jams, hence AT is the only choice for me. How does it feel compared to the old 5AT and what's the MPG at highway speeds (gearing killed that on 5AT).
Thanks.

My impressions are that the new seven-speed gearbox is a significant improvement over the older 5AT. Faster and crisper lockup between gears makes each shift in the 370Z discernable. Besides offering a wider range of gearing, the EPA fuel mileage figures are what you should be noting. Easily the best slushbox that any Z has come equipped with- IMHO!

I guess if Nissan dealer too **** to let you test drive a 370Z, try test drive a G37 7AT. It's just the same gear box.

I test drove the 7AT. It was definitely crisper shifting. The gears are pretty closely packed - on my test drive it seemed the car hunted a bit between 2nd-3rd on some curvy sections. A flick of the paddle shifter put it where I wanted it. The paddle shifters are nice - and you don't have to bump the shift lever over into the manual position to use them - just click away. I do believe the city and highway gas mileage were up a couple on the sticker.

It's a much better transmission - I'd buy a 370 7AT if I was in the market.

black. trans felt good-had to get used to the paddles compared to my
5AT bump shifter, it seemed to work fairly good-i did not get to really
horse on it but i did some hard launches and accels

On the new 7AT you can use the paddles or you can still use the shifter to switch gears.

dkmura: You probably mean undiscernible (i.e. imperceptible). I'd get me a 370, but my 350's just TOO reliable & s-w-e-e-t to get rid of her!

370Z in automatic just seems stupid, it's like Porsche automatics (which by the way have crap resale).

I don't know, auto's have come a long way, but in a sports car it's just wrong. Also, even if you're not that great a stick driver, with SynchroRevMatch it's a no brainer for noob stick drivers to get a stick.

I also hate the claim about I see traffic so I have to have auto. That's the biggest crapbag excuse for not knowing how to drive stick well. I commuted for two years, 35 miles per day for 90 minutes each way. An hour of that was in logjam traffic. I find a stick is better in traffic, if you know what you're doing you can keep the car rolling in most cases without being in the clutch, and when you're stopped you don't need to constantly have your foot on the brake.

People who say stick is annoying in traffic shouldn't be driving a Z anyways, go get a Prius (which I also own, LOL).

I hate to stereotype, but anyone who buys this car with the 7AT I automatically classify as a wannabe/can't drive stick (well).

Tested one and it was great, in paticuliar from 2nd thru 4th. It pulled really strong in those gears from 1st to second, it was ok......... Most Vq's at least in the Z's and Maximas I have driven pull harder from 2nd gear on up better than 1st.

I never get the people who will deal with the negatives of driving a sports coupe (no back seat, firm ride, noisy), yet get an automatic. If you are going to drive a sports car, go all in.

No, I selected the correct word in 'discernable' (i.e. easily felt or detectable). The new seven-speed tranny has such a firm lock up and rapid action, there's no doubt when the gear change occurs. While it's smooth, this is no CVT tranny!

However, I still prefer my six-speed manual gearbox and I feel the same way about my 350Z!

I see the same nonsense is still going on here. No wonder most of the 350/370 crowd moved on.... Who gives a crap what other people like?

What? You think just because someone drives a manual, their somehow better drivers and more in tune with the sports cars? LOL Remember that the next time a PDK equipped Porsche or DCT M3 blows on by...

Get real...Any tom dick and harry can drive a freaking manual... Hell when I started driving in the early 80's, MT's were the dominant transmission of choice in most (small or import)cars. By nearly everyone... No special skills required... Practice would make any monkey proficient.

I enjoy a good manual gearbox as much as the next guy... But judging people by their transmission choice is just plain ignorant and childish..

I like to see you MT fanboys call a local guy I know, who loves trackdays (or anyone like him), but lost his left leg in an accident, a wannabe who can't drive stick to his face. He now hits the track in tippy equipped cayman.

Come on man, that's totally not relevant to the discussion being had.

really? you can bump the shifter still, j.k. i did that too, i was just
commenting on getting used to using paddles in the Z, i do track days
in my car and have gotten really used to that motion of my arm at the
right rpms etc...kinda like a reflex now compared to it being near the
steering wheel and grabbing a paddle.

I know people can have there own opinions about sh*t, but I hate it when people b!tch about Automatics. WHO CARES!!! Besides, I steer with my left knee all the time, while smoking and drinking at the same time. Can you do that in a manual from first gear all the way to 6th? Prolly not and I dont care if you can either. But I can
