Had a good amount of behind the wheel time in a well optioned 370Z. I'd like to say it was a touring model without the sports package. Also sat inside a fully equipped model with sports package.
To start off I own a 06 base 350Z. My interior lacks alot. Scratches on the door handle and on the cubby hole tab thing. Paint chipping on both the exterior and interior on a meticulously maintained car. So I know these defects were not caused by me.
So the 370z once I sat inside I noticed that 240Z styling rear window and on entry and exit hit my head a few times on the door because of the shape. A little less headroom than the 350z also because of the shape of the rear hatch.
The interior is a huge improvement. Everything looks and feels confident. Not cheap and plasticky. The entire setup is a huge improvement. I like the analog gauges as opposed to the digital.
Note: I test drove a semi-auto with paddle shifters.
The upshifts and downshifts felt very clean and precisive. Especially the downshifts. Compared to the BMW SMGII found in the E46 M3 and 330ci I test drove its alot more responsive, better feel in the paddles, and quicker shifts too. The steering feel is very much improved but not as heavy as I'd like but once again its an improvement over the 350Z.
The VQ37 feels rev-happy. I couldn't understand why most people say that the engine sounds horrible. I thought it sounded very responsive and agile. The rpms fly as opposed to the 350z when cruising and shifting normal the rpms kind of hang then drop almost like a delayed reaction.
The 370Z's brakes. I want them on my 06 sooo bad. The pedal felt awesome and the brakes just grab with such ease. I've never driven a Brembo optioned 350Z but man the 14" rotors and 4 piston calipers on the 370Z really do it alot of justice.
As do the tires. I test drove one with optional Yokohama Advans. The other tire option I saw was the Bridgestone RE-050. I believe the tire sizes were F: 245 R: 285 or something in that range. But man that car handles exceptionally. It was amazing. I'm sold on buying a 370Z. Definitely.
In conclusion the only problem I had was the entering and exiting. But I'd be able to grow accustomed to it eventually. But all in all its exactly what I was expecting it to be and that is a huge improvement over the 350Z. Definitely worth the pennies if you have been saving.
