Default The *Correct* Weight of the Base 2009 370z 6spd.

I've noticed much debate about the weight of the 370z, so I decided to make a thread to clear it up as best I can.

On my way home from work I decided to stop at a metal yard owned by a friend of mine before I filled up the gas tank. The scale was zero'd in. I found this out because he had me step on the scale to find my exact weight upon questioning him. I drove onto the scale and received the exact weight of the car.

After this I drove to another metal yard (this one with two scales) and BOTH weighed in within ten pounds of the original scale.

The car weighed in at 3,400 pounds exactly. Minus my weight, gasoline, and my duffle bag with my cleaning car products in it, the weight of my particular model 370z (base, 6spd) comes in at approx.3,185lbs.

P.S. My weight is 175, and I had approx 35lbs of gas in the car. Duffle bag weighed about 5lbs.

There you have it folks, hope this helps!

EDIT: Numbers altered from original posted numbers due to incorrect calculation of gas weight

Doubt if the weight question will ever end. Members love to post contrary weights. Guess it is like a contest.

Guess so, I did it out of urge to find my own answer rather than judge based on the debate

I'd say that's a pretty decent weight. Obviously everyone would love the Z to weigh 3,000 to 3,100 pounds. But that's much better than what all the haters have been saying about the weight.

Good job!

I think its safe to say that both the 350Z and 370Zs are pretty close in weight. Some 350Zs will weigh more then some 370Zs and vice versa, all depends on the scale and the options each vehicle is equiped with. I think we can all come to this agreement and just realize they are going to be about the same.

They weighed Russel's (Z1) 370Z Touring Sport model at ZATTACK8 in Nashville on Crawford Z Car's corner scales and it was 3300 on the dot. Weight balance was excellent as well!

My 03 Enthusiast with no mats, no spare, etc and 1/4 tank of gas weighed right under 3100 when we did the same thing 5+ years ago.

You're supposed to weigh a car with a full tank of gas. 10-12lbs of gas means you had less than 2 gallons, did you really run your car that dry? Anyways, 19 gallons multiplied by 6lbs = 114lbs.

3210 + 114 = 3324 with a full tank, almost exactly what the mags and critics have weighed their Zs at. Base + Sports weighs just over 3350lbs with a full tank. Mine weighed ~3250lbs stock with a nearly full tank. So you've pretty much proven that the 370Z is heavier.

Actually you are supposed to weight it with what ever gas ammount YOU intend on using it. Serious auto-x and drag racers (which i am neither) race with 1/4 tanks to save weight so that is why we used 1/4 of a tank (that and i just happened to be there when we decided to weigh)

Anyone who has filled up a Z with a 1/4 tank left knows it will only take 15 gallons at most, usually around 13 or 14 with our magical gas gauge in the Z. On dead empty with several miles past --- on the dte my car has never taken more than 18.5 gallons. So with all that information there is somewhere between 5-7 gallons in a 1/4 tank. That is plenty for auto-x, drag, or even a decent single session length at a HPDE.

I was just about to say this. Running with only 10-12lbs of gas means that your E-light would be on.

So if your gas tank is larger you are at a disadvantage? 350Z's tank is 20gal, larger than most.

BTW, i dont hate the 370z, i'm just not the typical 370z fanboy. I've seen them, driven them, not impressed.

I actually calculated the gas wrong,so gas is 6 pounds per gal and I had around a quarter of a tank (5-6 gallons) so it's safe to say I had around 30 to 36 pounds of fuel in the tank. So the weight is 3,184. Guess it's safe to edit my original post.

I mis-calulated the weight of my gas and I rounded low on the weight of all of my stuff, so the number I posted could be easily subject to change, but only to a lesser number.

Actually, whatever I proved is up to you guys to decipher, I'm on no side. I'm happy with my car no bias here
