Default Why Nissan, why.

So I test drove a 370Z the other day, a black '09 NISMO (the guy said no '10's were on lots yet).

First I gotta say, I want a Roadster, but there is, quite literally, NOTHING in the Touring package I want, but I want EVERYTHING in the Sport package. Making touring mandatory for what is already a pricey version of the car ($5k more than a Base+Sport Coupe vs. a base Roadster) seems like not learning your lesson about escalating prices. And if you can offer the Coupe Base with Sport why not Roadster?

That being said, I really, REALLY like the interior, but I expected a little more power.

A little googling told me why. Less TQ than the 350...(the NISMO I drove actually had the same as the 350).

That is kinda disappointing. I understand the torque curve is supposedly much flatter but, i dunno, I just didn't feel it. It was a new car so I wasn't stupid about my test drive, but I did put my foot down a few times, and, I dunno, even after 5 years my Z feels very similar (I drove my Z there, and back, so I had a pretty back to back comparison).

That being said I will be buying a NISMO 370.

I've been agonizing over the choice between a 370 and a 2010 Camaro but Ii finally decided that, if GM wants to price the Camaro like a big boy car then the fisher price Playstation controller bullsh*t interior isn't acceptable.

No keyless entry/go, hard crap plastic, not really much of anything in the way of features. Just a V8 and a shared platform...couldn't get past the constant thought of "what exactly am I getting for my money?" One of the most produced engine families, a shared, hardly modified, platform, nothing impressive in build quality, no real features, an indiglo/timex 1993 watch for a radio display.

Anyway...I would have liked a Roadster, but, the packages suck.

Anything I should know about the 370 vs 350 before I buy or am I just in for another 5 years of driving bliss.

Oh and for the people who say it isn't worth the upgrade. I dunno. my Z is turning 5 April 15th, and the increased features, the awesome but SO weird SynchroRev, and a reset on ALL the parts in your car (i.e. brand new vs. 5 years old)...I think it's worth it.

I hate worrying about my car breaking down though...so peace of mind is worth a GOB to me...

You'll be fine. Post pictures of the Nismo 370z when you get it.

I traded my 350 AT Enthusiast for a 370 MT Sport. It's a different, but better, experience overall. Can't speak to the Nismo specifically.

I upgraded form the 2007 350z to a 2009 370z. interior, way better, better handling, and a better experiance. SRM is a sick little feature, I loved to Heal to but hell, the car does it for you and perfect each and every time. I think Nissan did a great job on the new models. I can't wait for someone to figure out the complete control of the stock computer as it will and should in theory yield very good gains. Compared to the Camaro, I don't think there is any comparison, completely different cars. The 370z is a more refined sports car. camaro, a larger heavier car. interior quality is no where near that of the Z, and if you ever drive both I think you will also agree the Z is the better driver.

I mean the auto will get you to 140 in under 20 seconds. To me that's fast and faster than my bike.
I had an '05 350 and now have an '09 370. 275 ft/lb on the 350 and 270 ft/lb on the 370. I can't really see how anyone can't tell the difference between the two. The 370 is a whole lot quicker and pulls a lot harder through the rev range. If you're one of these "shifts at 2500 (which is ridiculous)" then you won't tell the difference.

It honestly doesn't sound like you're sold on the Nismo either. From what I understand, be prepared for a little kidney-shaking. If you aren't looking for smoothness, then you're probably OK.

I agree the 2010 Camaro SS interior is just f'king nasty. My friend has one, and the car has $5k miles, already has power steering issues, and I have a feeling wont be nearly as reliable.

That said... it does give me a **** eating grin when I floor the gas on one. I can only imagine if it had exhaust and longtube headers.

Oh, and I test drove the 370z back to back with my '03 Track edition as well... needless to say I was thoroughly unimpressed. For the money, you might as well just slap on some minor FI and suspension and have a better looking car.

Everything you said in your first two posts in this thread seemed very logicly put, thought out, and valid, and then you wrote this ............

..............now THIS just sounds like an excuse to get a new car.

What have you done to your current Z to make you constantly worry about it breaking down? My Z is over 7 years old (September 2002 production date), and aside form the tranny which was replaced under warranty, i have had ZERO issues. Given i only have 67,000 miles on the clock, those that have twice the miles that i have have also had zero issues. Hell, i just replaced my origonal battery! 7 years is pretty good for a battery.

IMO, if i was gonna only keep a car for 5 years because i feel that it would die after that, i'd be damned if i was gonna buy it new and make all those payments, just to loose out in the end. Sounds like a lease may be a better idea for you!

the 370z is a good 4-5 cars faster than an pre 07 350... and do test pipes and g3 intakes and its a good amount faster than it was...

My 370z up until I messed with a buddy of mine with a 350z didnt "feel" much , if any, faster than my old full bolton tuned g35 coupe that used to run kneck and kneck with my buddies Z... needless to say after that day i had a new respect for the car, its a much more refined power... It wasnt even close that day... any speed any gear I just walked him like nothing... little 2 second pulls would leave me a car ahead... Even the gearing just seems just right where as i felt the 350z's stock gearing wasnt perfect.

Wait till you break her in, throw test pipes on, throw g3 intakes... and you will be amazed at how much better it really is...

The nismo exhaust leaves a little to be desired though as its soo quit... I heard one with HFC and it was much louder than stock, IMO HFC or test pipes (what i went with with my 370) are a must...

the one and only thing , actualy one of two things, the 350z has on the 370z is exhaust note and a digital speedo, lol
