At the cost of clutch and engine wear. Brakes are a lot cheaper to replace.

I can replace brakes in less than an hour for a few hundred dollars. The numbers are a tad higher for the clutch, and a major hassle. Downshifting has its place, but I rarely use it for daily driving. IMO

+1. Although there are times on the street where I'm glad I downshifted...because I need to hightail it away from yet another creative LA driver. But Brakes are definitely cheaper than clutches, transmission and engine wear...

For sure.

If you rev match correctly, though you hardly put any wear on those components at all.

Just the same, the brakes are designed to stop the car. Using them is a much better choice.

^^ True - smoother gear changes will reduce the shock and stresses on the drivetrain. I haven't spent enough time behind the wheel of a 370 to decide if I like it or not. Seems like a good idea - depending on the implementation and execution.

Personally, for me. Using an auto rev match is kinda like bowling with the bumpers up. I bought a standard because I enjoy controlling the car.

That said, I'm sure it's pretty fun to play around with.

some guys see this innovative feature as a convenience while others consider it a restriction to reduces the complete driving experience.

I personally like the idea. However i have not had a chance to test it myself. But it does make sense that it will increase the gas consumption. You are increasing the load on the engine even when you are down shifting [going from higher gear to lower, increasing the engine speed]. You can even try this on your 350Z. On your next fill-up, whenever you are slowing down put it on neutral and slow down. After you experiment this, try to rev-match on the next fill-up. You will see a significant difference.

I love this feature on my 370Z. I also love that you can shut if off.
