Next 370Z goes on a weightloss diet?
Judging by this report, looks like the next Z might be going on a serious diet...
Next-Gen Z will be smaller and lighter

They are going to castrate the car to make it cheaper and more fuel efficient. I don't think that it will be my cup of tea. To me, the 370z is like a poor man's Porsche GT3, a real sports car. I don't really want a car that is the equivalent to a souped-up Miata.
mmm...
How about a turbo V6? V8?
It's almost like hearing as if a Mustang were to be a 4 cyl turbo. Yeah, better fuel efficiency, but it would be sin.
Totally the opposite of where I thought Nissan would go.

Between now and the next Z we will see lots of concepts. And the coolest concept never goes into production. I assume that a 4 cylinder motor is shorter than a 6 giving Nissan an opportunity to shorten the front end?

On no, a small displacement turbo engine on a lightweight body. That would just be disastrous for the Z. God, could you imagine? They'd probably have to call it a 280Z or something, after the butchery is complete.
Well that depends on the power it is making. Say it weighs in at 3000lbs or so comparably equipped and pair it with a turbo 4, making around 260hp and 30+mpg it could work, no? Then again cars like Camaro, and Mustang make around 30 mpg out of their V6.
The "lighter" Z with the next platform has been in the works for some time.
Yes,from what I hear,the Z is going back to it's sportscar roots.
Not a car that one would be taking to the drags.
A 4cyl?IMO,not likely as it would be a tough sell to the public and the Z base of buyers.
The VQ is at its end.The next power plant to go with the new platform will more than
likely be from Mercedes.6cyl turbo.
Styling will be more crisp than the current 370.
From what I hear, the lines of the concept Z that was widely publicized will be on the
new Z.

Knowing how easy it is to make big power out of an Evo X, 4 banger turbos ftw. If it dips down to the 25k mark and with a more classic looking design, I'm in.

I think there would be a lot of us out there, including quite long term Z owners, that would want a fair few reasonable changes and power increase to add another Z to the fleet, or for some upgrade.
370 is lovely, but it's not really a major increase, it's just like driving a heavier, bigger, higher, tighter chassis'ed 350z DE. HR isn't a major change up either.

Its hard no to poach from the Z car within Nissan. But I am all for more nissans. They should call it a silvia 250-300hp compete with the BRZ, and have a 400 horse Z car! if they can keep the weight down it should keep up with the new 5.0l stangs stock for stock.
As long as it's faster and expensive enough to keep it somewhat exclusive. Like the others said, I don't give a rip about fuel efficieny. That's what the bike is for!
Edit: I just actually read the article. WTF!? Drop ponies? Wider audience? Cheaper? No Nissan. Please, no. Hopefully this is just a marketing ruse to spark interest when infact, the new Z will be lighter, have 400hp and base price at $40,000 because it's so F*cking awesome...

I guess I will save judgement till I see the car in action. Also there are going to be other options out there, Mazda has something in the works with it's rotary, hoping it's a new Rx7.
