Don't worry, there'll be plenty of posts about the Z35 as more hints get released. In fact, get ready for a flood! Back when the show models of the Z33 were released in 2001, the hype and comments began to build. Look at some of the early threads on this site, and you'll sense some of the excitement from those heady days. Just don't lose your mind as Nissan ratchets up the marketing machine. So that brings up another question: would you pay $2-3K above and beyond MSRP for the right to purchase one of the first new Zs off the line?
I personally would if I was financially stable enough, so my current answer would be nope. I'll just wait for it to depreciate enough to buy used just like my current Z.
Hopefully it won't have 5 previous owners like mine did though.
Watched the premier video on Nissan's YouTube channel just to get excited again. Running through comments and found these two going off on each other. This one guy was flexing his insider muscles and may have let out something:
I'll believe it's a 2022 model, it ain't coming out this year for the next and that is a fact.
As far as the car I can tell you this, only my opinion but even Nissan salesman told me this: The Z34 was NOT a huge improvement to the Z33, you could call a Z34 a Z33.5 and it would hit the nail on the head.
Nissan has been going on about the Z cars not selling, new flash... they are severely over priced for the performance they provide!
They got away with it with the Z32 because there was nothing like it, and then again with the Z33 until the market caught up, the Z34 landed in a world where many cars have it's same performance or more for about the same price or less. They never got out of that rut, the Z34N starts at $45k and didn't even have navigation standard or as an option!
Nissan cannot do that again, everyone is saying Nissan is going back to it's roots with these cars, yet if they plan to do what the rumors say and go down in displacement and only come in a 7spd auto it WILL be a failure.
IMHO this car should come with a detuned (mass produced) version of the GTR 3.8L with smaller turbos and 400hp, it also NEEDS to have a manual option.
We don't need another Supra and anyone buying a Supra over a C8 is insane, the same would apply to the new Z, it needs to have something the competition doesn't plain and simple.
Now you have my thoughts... may never talk about it again.
meh, for the price point that it will be i feel it will either limit the sales to the enthusiasts, or do like the c8 did and attract a new crowd that have never owned one before and just jumped on the bandwagon. lets say they start at $45k (will undoubtedly be higher imho), and if you pay over msrp for a first year model (as high as $20k for the new vettes) it puts it in a price range of other cars i would rather have.
i buy used cars, because i get more of what i want and someone else ate the depreciation
I have no insider info. I'd imagine with Mr K gone the bean-counters need to justify production of this line which is not a revenue stream for Nissan.
There is so much in flux right now with engineering- EV cars #s run circles around internal combustion engines, so they'll need to decide whether to continue to offer a traditional engine or shoot the moon. I would not be surprised to see paddles only.
Lastly there is currently a global pandemic resulting in major financial recession worldwide, consumer product releases are being delayed.
My $$$$ says the Z line is over.
It seems reasonable for the z34 chassis to be reused with some substantial work. There is not a way for them to hit a release within the next two years without there being some knowledge of a new chassis development. It will most likely be the vr30ddtt motor. There have been spy shots of this in testing and the swap at SEMA.
It would be interesting to see the focus in the future to use the KR20DDET and focus on a sub 3klbs sports coupe and target the 35k price area, but I do not see that happening on the 2021 release for the 2022 model.
As I recall they already killed off the Roadster version.
Of the Z34, yes. But look at this pic carefully.
I see what appears to be a glass roof and open seams between the A & B pillar trims (atop the door glass). Is it removable? Targa? Would have conjectured a folding hard top (a la G37 Vert or MB SL) but for the upward protruding "fender wing" aft of the C-pillar. But we'll see.
I agree with Mic that this spy pic looks like the new Z could have a removable or retractable top. I hope it's the former, as the latter can be heavy and expensive. We'll see. Knowing past design/production schedules for Nissan, it seems a fall 2021 intro of the production '22 Z35, sounds possible. Cost will be key, and let's hope Nissan can produce a lighter and less complex manual base model near $40K to make a splash in the market.
Nope.. Can't say I care too much about the new z tbh. Way too many fish to fry in life right now tbh.
I already bought a z new once.. Not buying another lol.
