oh yeah just a question. Im not too knowledgable in this area

why is it that everybody loves the M5 so much and it seems to be their top car when the M6 has pretty much the same engine, but with a slightly different look?

what makes the M5 so great? im asking serious question, not bashing the M5. I seem to be missing something

Price-wise yes the M6 is a little more

but we're talking about performance here. the M5 seems to be a benchmark. but isnt the M6 lighter?

ok i guess what im really asking is. Is the M6 better than the M5, performance-wise?

the M6 is a touring GT car. it's gigantic.

the M5 is a hooligan sedan. hooliganry is much cooler than old man cruiser.

M6's are pretty big for a coupe, so at that price point I'd prefer a nimble Porsche of some sort.

M5's comfortably seat five and seem more proportional for their size. Plus the M5 lineage (even though the M6 has one too) seems more timeless. Just my opinion.

i don't know if you were referring to me, but i don't even have a bimmer. the GTR will definitely pull on the m5 up to about 120 or so.... but the m5 will catch up to it and probably pass it by 170mph.

i was responding to the question by the OP that the m5 has a stronger pull from 100-170mph... which i'm pretty sure it does.

If they're both stock and your planning to go up to 170mph, GTR will win. If I remember correctly, M5 has a speed limiter and it is at 155mph. I might be wrong.

i raced a slightly modded M5 in my stck Block TT setup with 420whp or so from a roll at 45mph. he jumped out on me i then caught him and held about a car-car and 1/2 until 160ish when he came flying past me like a bat out of hell

it does have a limiter at 155 thats why in my previous i quoted slightly moded because you need a chip that removes the limiter and also ups the power about 50 hp i think

The speed limiter is for US cars only I think. My opinion on why the M5 flew past a TT Z at 160mph where he was holding a lead before that was because the Z has much shorter gearing, and your advantage ran out at that MPH. The m5 and GTR are both geared for ~200mph so its going to go to aerodynamics (GTR) and peak power (GTR). Oh and there is a replacement for displacement, BOOST!

Stock for stock, the M5 NEVER catches up... If we start talking mods, what's the point? You could mod either car..

I personally think the M5 will start to inch away on the top end. I've driven the car multiple times and that V10 sings up top, after 100 thats when that cars starts separating the men from the boys. The acceleration beyond 140 is still so linear and progressive. Tough call, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
