Default aftermarket header = high RPM

i just notice today that at 80miles, my RMP in 3200-3300RPM compare to 3000 with stock header. Is this normal?

I'd say that's not a good sign. It's taking more power to go the same speed - that seems backwards from what you'd expect.

no way!

same rpm equals same speed, always. As long as you havent gotten a new set of gear ratios, 3krpm will always be 80mph in 6th, in a 6mt. ALWAYS! Thats with the same size tires and all.

maybe your tires are smaller?

ehh.. chill dude.. no need to be dissing.. and you're wrong.. ecu can adjust a different a/f and cause a higher rpm than normal. It may take some driving to have it go back it's normal state.. what's the idle when you're parked.. it can rev abit higher too... like around .9 to 1.2k.

check again after couple of hundred miles. also check for leaks in all your breather piping.

well, i came back to the shop that install for me and they plug in the scan reader. The RPM at idle is correct. However, once it hit 2K or above, the # is off. For example, the reading from the scan is 2800 while in my car, it is 3000. He said the rpm is off from my car. It has nothing to do with the header being installed.

In addition, he said STRUP made the pipe bigger ; therefore, it gains in high end while lossing out torque for mid range.

at idle, it is below 1K. (.6-.8)

What the heck is going on? STRUP owner, do you have the same issue as me?

not a strup owner, but the idle on my car is 650rpms, when the engine is warm.

also, with headers you have top end gains, but lose a little down bottom.

that's the normal idle range. pretty bizarre about your rpm.. I've seen speedo being off plenty of times but never the rpm.. oh well.. at least you found the prob.

not yet. I'm confused about the RPM being off on the car after the header install.

there's something definately wrong. my idle got bumped up a bit - i idle at ~700rpm - but that's it. headers will not affect RPMs; different tire ratios and rear end gearing will.

i've got to say this - I noticed NO loss of power downlow/middle. Infact, if anything, I noticed a power gain throughout the ENTIRE curve

my car is AT. Before i have the header install, i have no issue with RPM being increased (i have the 20" wheel for 6 months, no problem)

What i see now is: it jumps up to 3200-3300RPM when i cruise at 80miles/hour. When using the scan reader, the rpm showing about 200 off. (which explain the increase)

So how the heck that header cause all of this?
