Default Removable hardtop?

I've been trying to search all over this forum to see if anybody has ever created one or even thought of creating one.

I've been thinking of making a custom hardtop for my future 350zr .. I'm currently in the process of buying a silverstone zr from my boss. He's upgrading to either a maserati or porsche, and so i was going to take his zr off his hands for a cheap deal.

I've seen a lot of convertibles with a hardtop option like the s2k and the miata .. Has there been anything for the zr?

I have a small background in custom fiberglass creations and i was thinking of creating a hardtop for the zr. Would anybody else be interested in this concept? I'd definitely want to open up the back a little bit more to allow for a better view of the blindspot with the top on. Also i'd have to create and figure out a way to keep the hardtop on the car itsself.

If this has been discussed, could someone point me in that direction? If not, anybody else be interested in it? I think it'd look sick.

Btw, i've been a lurker around this forum .. I haven't been really set on buying a zr since i've been looking into other convertible options such as an s2k, 04+ mb slk, and the mb sl series. But since my boss offered me his zr for dirt cheap, i'm not going to pass it up!

The only real benefit for me would be to be able to take car to a road course, but the top unfortunately would only increase the already lofty weight issue.

true, but i'm more into the whole look of the car as a whole .. not caring about weight, autoX, etc. I think the car would look a lot more sleek imo.

I would consider purchasing a hard top simply for Winter.

I doubt there's any latch you acn secure a hardtop on the soft-top hood, and +1 on the weight issue

I'd would most likely want do this it doest seem like it would be a big deal to make either. Your could probable keep the top down then just go and get the exact latch for the back piece and the one for the front seperate......would be nice kinda got me thinking of possibly taking a stab at trying it

i've been wanting to create one just myself .. I think it'd be sweet driving around with the only removable hardtop zr. As far as the latches go, i'd just cust fab one up from scratch so that the top would be able to latch on the back cover that hides the softtop, then i would make something that would snap into place with the handle like the softtop.

If i did create one, would anybody be interested in purchasing one?

I think their is a latch part on the back of the 350Z the part that flips up and back down that covers the top when it is down. I will take a picture and post it later when I have some more time.

We are actually developing a prototype hard top on our orange 350z roadster (some of you have probably seen it on this site) www.vqmotoring.com I will have pics of the finished product within the next few months. We are finishing the block on the car, APS extreme kit and DTA engine managment system etc.
I will post pics of the car sometime this week.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

In miata-land a lot of people, especially the autox'ers, remove the soft top and all the associated hardware and put on an aftermarket fiberglass top. This is a big net weight loss.

I am also very interested, we could use this Hardtop in Europe too!
Hope the styling will enhance the 350ZR lines.
Keep us informed !!!
