Question New 350ZR owner...Mods?

I am a new owner of a used 2004 ZR with 5300miles and had a few questions to ask regarding mods and warranty. What can and can't I do that would void the warranty? I was looking to pick up some HP and was wondering what is a good first step. I know there are s/c kits and nitro but want to maintain drivability. My thoughts regarding sinking $6k into a s/c has to deal with the return on trade in down the line.

What are some good mods to make that would give me nice hp gains without breaking the bank.

Also anything that I should be aware of with regard to this model and any potential problem areas?

1st, adding any 3rd party aftermarket part to your car only voids that part of the cars warrenty... for example, replace the exhaust with a Stillen exhuast and your exhust will no longer be covered by Nissan warrenty, the rest of your car is still covered by the factory warrenty..

Only exception to that is if you put on Type S Nismo products and have the dealership install them for you... If you do that then the product will be covered by your standard or extended warrenty...

That said, if you install a 3rd party aftermarket part and say your engine blows up. The law states that the dealership has to prove that the 3rd party aftermarket part blew up your engine in order for them to deny warrenty work. If they do prove it then your out of luck and will have to pay to have your engine rebuilt.. Only exception to this is if its a Nismo Type S product that you had installed.....

So bottom line... Odds of a 3rd party bolt on parts blowing up your engine is pretty remote.... so you should be safe installing any 3rd party bolt-ons on your car...

that said

Nismo Type S products are the only 100% safe way to go...

Have Fun

It sort of depends on what you consider “breaking the bank” I have been pleased with my setup which includes the Nismo CAI, headers and exhaust system. I also added the Nismo sway bars and would like to do the shock & spring kit someday.

One word of warning is to keep in mind how loud you are willing to let the Roadster get. With the intake, headers and exhaust it can roar pretty loud at full throttle. I like it but with the top down, sound becomes a bigger issue in the Roadster than in the coupe.

Also, the Nismo headers are more difficult to install on the Roadster due to engine configuration. I also read posts that others had a harder time with the CAI but mine went on with no problems.

Have fun.

The NISMO intake is R-tune, so it won't be covered under warranty. It all depends on what type of relationship you have with your dealer. My dealer has installed all my S-Tune and R-Tune stuff, and even some aftermarket stuff. I am very confident that if I had a problem, he would work with me to resolve it fairly, but the bottom line is that if it seems like the aftermarket part caused the problem, I will have to pay for the repairs.

Small price to pay for a mean sounding Roadster though....

Reprogramming the ECU is something probably Nissan would frown upon - if they knew. It would be very difficult to detect a reprogrammed ECU. Technosquare is working on the 04 ECUs and they can do things like custom air/fuel ratios, remove the speed limiter, increase the idle and redline RPM. But, for $600, I would do some other mods first. I decided to go without an ECU for now because my air/fuel ratios look good and the other features are just not worth $600 for me. I plan on doing camshafts, flywheel and a limited slip differential before I do the ECU. But that is just my opinion...

Thats true.. I asked the service manager at the dealership about this and he told me if theres a problem they would take care of it and not worry... So some dealerships are more performance orianted then others, and have no prolbem installing aftermarket stuff and helping you out if something goes wrong... I've been to some dealerships that frown on even Nismo Type S products... you would want to stay clear from these dealerships... most of the time there the smaller dealerships with this attitude..

I was reading the accessory book dor the 05 350Z's and it states "They are backed by Nissan's 3-year/36,000 mile parts and accessories limited warranty when installed at time of vehicle purchase"

I'm not sure if this applies to Nismo or just regular accessories.

FYI... I have had my 350ZR for a week stored at my house waiting for March to come. It's been waxed/hand glazed 2 times so far. I hate snow!!!
