I'm not so sure the 350Z is going to look good as a soft top. Both the Audi TT and VW Bug look like bath tubs and the Z's sleek roof line keeps it from appearing that way. Once you lose the sleek roof I think it may lose much of its aggressive look.

I'm totally with kroams here.
I still think they're going to have to do something very stylistically special to pull off the convertable. I just don't know what. Looking back in Z history, I'd guess it will involve a big black rollbar somehow.

If they could keep that great roof but make it retractable, now that would be something to wait for! A Targa option would be shweet as well.

- more open feeling
- less wind buffeting
- from open to closed in 6 seconds w/o leaving the seat
- no diff. in storage space top up or down
The targa was nice at times, but a PITA overall.

wow that pic just blew my mind i woulda bet it was real!
NOTICE its a european model the side marker under the round Z emblem on the side of the car. and the different taillights looks like it has amber lights at the bottom of them.
as for t-tops targa or convertible
16 years old----i had a 91 z28 t-top didnt like the cross bar
top speed i have takin it too 145 mph got a ticket for drag racing a 92 mustang gt
18 years old----92 vette convertible didnt feel safe
top speed i have takin it to 135 mph governed
20 years old----93 premiere edition supra tt targa auto loved it
top speed i have takin it to 168 mph @ 5900 rpm's red line at 6700 but a turn was comin up so i had to let off
by the way that was the fastest year supra tt with the auto.... 6 speed was slower. and proven slower. AND YES I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A STICK!!!!!!
21 years old 94 supra tt targa 6 speed still have it waiting another 3 weeks till the Z comes.
well i learned my lessons about driving fast so i only had it up to about 140 mph when i got it in 95... havent really takin it over 110 since then.
28 years old----still driving it 110,000 miles going strong
I LOVE THE TARGA!!!!!! the most
and the safe part.......... speaking from experience i smashed all 3 cars and totalled all of them
the vette vert Wraped around a light post on the highway. subframe split in 2...... by far worst of the 3
the 93 supra total damage 38,000 LMAO air bags worked great. exellent car to smash front end imapct into a ford explorer at 55 mph with no break time. left only 5 feet of skid marks
the Z28 well that car was just. well forgetaboutit.
all in all. i just think a targa will be more safe for crashing then a convertible......
P.S. please not flames on this post about how shitty of a driver i am.
oh and for the record when i had my supra up to 168 mph , that was probably the scarest thing i ever did. i was sweatin bullets but what a dam rush.
THANKS have a great night
Michael

OK, I guess the targa might have an advantage IF you plan on crashing your car. (never had more than a minor fender bender in 20 years driving myself)
Still, it a lot depends on the car's underlying structural integrity. The Supra turns into a wet noodle w/ the top removed, while the S2000 is stiffer than most closed coupes either way. A surprising # of folks have flipped S2000's and walked away unscathed thanks to the rollbars, and it's done very well in crash tests. Maybe since I'm used to riding and racing sportbikes, I've never had any safety concerns w/ my S2000, not even on the track.
