Question Is buying one worth living on peanuts?

I love the roadster and want one real bad, reeeal bad. But my salary is medioka.

As an owner, did you think this car is worth living on baked beans and toast for the next ten years?

As well as the fact you could also get a used porsche boxter S for the same price.

I bought an 04 Roadster..lucky for me, my wife is an electrical engineer. My suggestion is to find a significant other who can help support the sickness.

If that is not plausible..then I say definatly go pick up a USED 03 or 04, and save that extra bit of money.

Yeah, not worth eating beans for the next ten years,

Best thing to do is save/save/save and put a big chunk down on a used.

Get that smart car! LOL
It's got a whopping 90 BHP from its massive 3 cyl. motor!!
Plus...it is a roadster. And...if for some reason you decide you want to change the color of your car you can replace all the colored body panels in about 10 mins.
Hey, if I lived in europe I'd buy one.

No car is worth a financial hardship. And this car is a toy to many. I'm driving my pick-up daily. Yes, its nice to know it is there, but I was 39 before I got such a car. Not that I didn't want one sooner...

Test yourself on it! If you are looking to finance, estimate your payment, insurance change, and fuel cost change, and write yourself a check each month for 3-6 months and see how it flys. If you make it through that and manage to throw a pizza into the menu every now and then (grin) go buy your car. After 6 months of that, you'll have a good down payment, too!!

But don't be foolish...don't know if this thread is really serious, but assuming you are, no stress is worse than financial stress and I speak from experience. Don't do anything like this until you can handle it AND you are also saving money at the same time. Just my 2c (pun intended)

The only cars worth starving for are graced by a prancing horse or a raging bull. Wait a few years, buy a used Z. In the meantime stick with what you can easily afford. Just my advice, you definitely don't have to take it though.

........Then in twenty years when you think your getting older, go out into your garage and gaze on your beauties.

Set goals and all you want shall come if you work for it....
Good luck.........

Agree completely. This car should only be bought if it can be a complete toy. It is not a practical means of transportation whatsoever. I drive a Honda Pilot most of the time. I was 38 before I could afford to have an "extra" car like the Z roadster. I have loved cars all my life, but you need to be realistic about what class of car you can afford. Even now, I could say that I want a Ferrari Modena real bad, but I'm not about to dump every last penny I have into getting one.

If your car puts you into a position that your entire life is consumed into owning it, you will grow to hate the car. My advice to you....buy a used Honda S2000. You can pick up a moderate milage car for around 15k on ebay. But....depending on where you live, what you do, you will still need another car. Two seater convertibles are really best suited for being complete toys. Most people can't afford those kind of things until they are a little older.

Sell your first born to own this car! It's that great!

No, really. Lots of sensible advice above, and I echo those thoughts. The ZR is actually more practical than I ever thought it would be, but in my mind it's no ordinary car. For example, I couldn't bear to park it on the streets of DC and have some idiot bump park. That's why I bought a Ford Ranger to use as a daily driver just two days after buying my ZR. You'll want to treat this car special and having a little money in the bank will only help that.
