Default Do you leave the top down at places?

I'm curious if anyone leave their top down at malls, grocery stores, restuarants, clubs, and so on. Also, do you have your windows up as well?

Yup. I usually like to put my windows up so it's sort of a theft-deterrent. Since I have my radar detector wired to the rear-view mirror, I am paranoid about someone stealing that.

I also have a viper security system with proximity detector... so if anyone reaches in my car, they'll be unpleasantly shitting themselves.

edit: I only leave it down if I'm not going to be for long (no more than 30 to 60 min). I don't think I'd leave it down unless I had my prox detector alarm.

Same here. I leave it down at work cause it requires a gated badge. I don't leave it opened in my apartment although it is gated. I also have the windows up as I see many other comvertibles do. I remove my radar detector every time though.

When I get a more sophisticated alarm I would be less worried.

Hell-O no! When's the last time you looked around when a car alarm goes off? If I look at all anymore, I probably only do so less than 10% of the time. They're so omnipresent, and almost always false alarms, and most people just curse about how annoying the sound is rather than worrying about an actual theft.

I also have the graphite leather interior, and leaving the top down in summer sun is out of the question.

That's what the 2 way alarm is for.

Birds don't care about alarms. I even turn my helmet over when I get off of my bike. I've seen it happen!!! Yuk!!!

I usually put the top up because it's so easy in the Z, just push a button. I leave the top down in my other convertable all the time because it has a boot that has to be snapped over the top and it's a pain. In the past 10+ years of doing so, I've never had anybody do anything to my cars.

I leave the car with the top down ONLY for relatively short periods and if I'll be in a continuing position to see the Z, e.g., through a window looking out on the the parking lot. I also set the alarm system that locks the doors and goes off should anyone reach in try to open the door from the inside.

I'm paranoid. Too many idiots out there. I won't leave it down except for short periods when it's in sight. As was stated above, the thing goes up and down so quickly, that I don't think it's worth taking a chance.

I've been known to leave the top down in the driveway, but not even then for extended periods. I don't want any birds leaving presents.

It really all depends on the individual and how "carefree" you are. One of the neighbors will go to the grocery store, etc. and leave the top down on her Mercedes SLK. Personally, I'd be in a panic, imagining all sorts of horrible things, from itinerant squirrels taking up residence to mischievous kids dumping soda on the seats.

The next generation of alarms will have cameras. I can't wait till Clifford or Cobra makes them.

I've owned convertibles since I've started driving. That was in Manhattan and Brooklyn, N.Y. Back then I always left the top down. I figured if someone wanted to steal something at least they would not cut a hole in the top which was very common. Having cars stolen and stuff stolen out of your car was a way of life in NYC. I once had the seats stolen out of my Triumph while I was in class. Had to drive home sitting on a milk crate (back then they were made of wood), nice comfy ride. I pretty much still feel the same way. I don't leave anything exposed in the car. Radar detector, cell phone even an empty bag. I leave absolutely nothing visible in the car. If I am at a mall, and will only be gone 30 minutes or so I won't put the top up. Sometimes I will put the windows up, but usually not. I've been pretty lucky, I have not had anything stolen or vandalized in any of my cars for the last 20 years or so.

Doesn't matter, e.g. posts after my last one. The only type of alarm that even MIGHT make me consider it is one that makes the guy pee, all right, with a taser shot that immobilizes everything, including his bladder sphincter, after he comes w/in 6 in. of my baby. Somehow, though, I don't think the products liability lawyers will allow it. Darn!
