Default Trade G35c for 350ZR?

Anybody here go from a G35 coup to a ZR? I'm thinking about trading mine in and was wondering if people have been happy with their choice.

I had a silver G35C 6MT purchased 11/02. I kept it for about a year before selling it and getting a SB 350ZR Touring 6MT. The two cars are completely different: the first one is a GT car, very comfortable and fairly sporty to drive; the ZR is a ragtop, need I say more? The ZR is quite a bit smaller and therefore more nimble/more fun to drive. One thing I can tell you is that you'll miss the quality of the Infiniti when you trade her for a ZR, as well as the superior dealer experience you get with the luxury brand. Do I regret switching from one car to the other? Not a bit, as I really wanted a convertible instead of a coupe; however, if I had to do it again, I would probably buy a slightly used M3 Convertible.

Milanista, was exactly correct.I had a 2003 350z coupe which I traded in to get a 2005 350zr,which I love. But during the process of me trading the Z's,I went and test drove a 2005 G35 coupe. After driving the coupe,I almost changed my mind and got the G35. The ride is smoother in the G35, but I went and looked at the roadster one more time and the top is what sold me. The G35 is a beautiful car,but the ZR is a beast. It is topless need I say more. The only other car I would get over the ZR is the M3 convertible. Either way you decide, you still will not be loosing, but when I tell you that the ZR is the most attention rising car that I have ever owned ,I am not exagerating. When ever I drive that car so many people compliment me on the ZR.And this is EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT, AND EVERYONE LOOKS AT THE ZR, YOUNG AND OLD. I also have a 2003 Cadillac Escalade and my wife drives a 2001 Jaguar S type. Both are nice looking automobiles and when I drive them I might catch a glance here and there, but I am telling you that when I drive the ZR people actually seem to be in amazement. Get the ZR and you will know what I mean. But I must give the Z coupe some love and say that I did get a lot of attention in the coupe when I had one, because the coupe is hot, but nowhere near the attention that I recieve in the roadster.

I hear you. I've had convertibles in the past and I think they are just more prone to attention, because everybody want to look inside. Having a nice looking ride helps of course

I just seem to be on the fence with this one, because I am concerned with the day to day convenience of the ZR. It will be my only ride, so I've got to make sure I can live with it for the next 3-4 years.

Well, if this car is going to be your only ride, then it's a no-brainer: forget about the ZR and get the G35C. The ZR has no room to carry anything more than a couple of grocery bags, whereas the G35X has a good size trunk and the rear seats fold forward for extra room. Not to mention the fact that for everyday driving in traffic and in any weather condition, the ragtop is not the way to go: the interior is noisier and the top will not last very long and stay nice looking if exposed to the elements (and bird excrements) on a daily basis. Snd of course, no back seat in the ZR...

As SwordPlay stated, convertibles in general are prone to getting more looks just because, specially when the top is down, other drivers can easily see who's driving and consciously/subconsciously are drawn to see who's at the wheel. It doesn't matter whether it's a new 360 Spyder or an old Geo Metro Convertible you're next to at a traffic light: you tend to have to look at who's driving. We're all guilty of it at some time or another.

Again, I agree with you both, get the G35 because it will serve you better than the ZR on a daily basis. And and at the same time, by getting the G35 you do not have to sacrafice the performance or looks. Milanista, I agree that in general convertibles get attention, but there is no way you can compare a Spyder and defintely not a Metro convertibles to a ZR. It is like comparing apples and oranges. If the ZR was not a good perfomance car or not well designed , non of us would have purchased it, just because it was a convertible. Adding the convertible top to the Z, just made a hot car even hotter. Top up or top down, the ZR is the best looking car out right now,in my opinion. I do not consider myself to be a Z enthusiast at all and,I am sure that most of the people on this site have much more knowledge about the Z than I do. But this is the only car that I have purchased in my life, that when I got it home,I had no regrets for buying it and was totaly satisfied.

Just to clarify, I already have the G35c. I've been driving it for the past couple of years. I am only trying to determine if it will be a big change trading it in for the ZR.

I have driven the ZR 4-5 times now and it feel comfortable. Just dont know if it will feel that way on a daily basis. Each time I drove it, the top was up, just so I see if I like it under the worst of conditions. I know with the top down, it's not comparison to a hard top.

Gotcha. I thought you were trying to decide between the two cars. IMHO, you should keep the G35C if you can only have one car. Convertibles in general are nice as pleasure vehicles, but not as your only means of transportation. I have a well-used Toyota Camry to drive whenever i need the extra room or I don't want to worry about where to park my ZR.

Having a convwertible as your only, or primary means of transportation is not too bad of an idea, depending on your lifestyle. I have had a convertible as my primary means of transportation since 99, and I can, and have done just about everything in one imaginable. You just have to look at what you do with your life and determine what you want out of it. Obviously, you don't need it as a work vehicle, but if you need extra space, maybe the convertible is not the thing for you.
Just so you know, I have a personal best of fitting an entire grocery cart full into the trunk, and that is about all I will ever need to fit. If you want to make it work, it can.

If you want a roadster, go for it. For those times when you might need something else, you could always rent anything from a sedan to a pickup. And there's always the option of buying a cheap, reliable second vehicle.

I don't use my roadster as a daily driver, but I am amazed at how it does fill my normal needs. Between the trunk and the passenger seat, it really can hold a ton of stuff (and if you have a passenger, you can always force him to hold packages and the like; I've been known to do this and to tell the person to just be grateful they were getting the chance to ride in my Z ).

I actually considered a G35 for a while before getting a roadster. I thought the Z was just too impractical, but in the end I had to follow my heart. Interestingly, one of my neighbors went from a Z coupe to a G35 coupe and now says it was a big mistake. When he saw my latest roadster, he got this gleam in his eye ...

When was the last time you hauled 4 people and how often? I use to take my colleagues out to lunch and that was about it. When I got rid of my big *** 4 door I thought I was going to miss not having so much space. You just get use to planning when you take a trip.

Also You can store stuff where the top goes, be it the top is up.

And you'll have a blast making 2 trips to Costco.

I was planning to trade in my 03 DB Touring for a G35C (Red). I test drove the G35 and I was impress with all the options it had but did not feel like the Z. I went for an oil change and other schedule maintenance for the Z and I told sales guy if I can test drive the ZR. Guess what happen? I told him can you work the numbers and give me a good deal for the trade as well as the price for the ZR and that day I drove the ZR home. I said that eventhough this will only be the opportunity to have a ZR I might as well pay for what I enjoy. No regrets except you will need to get a 3M clear bra, just a recommendation. Also, I'm using my ZR for daily use, I know about the top needing replacement latter down the road and other wear and tear. I like the fact the after the end of the day when the weather is nice you can take the top down and just cruise. That's best feeling after a hard days work. Good luck!!!

You got that right. I'm driving a Ford Freestart 2004 over a year now, just only me, alot of room, I asked my girl friend to go out for dinner, she refused to get in my fancy Van, but she jumped right in my ZR.
If you want to enjoy the wind blowing to your hair and the look that attracted to people, don't even compare with G35 hard top and ZR topless.

Everytime I took my ZR out on the weekend then I always see S2k,BMW Z4, Porche following me with top down.

I love it..........

Just came back from the dry cleaners. It was nice out, a bit chilly, but sunny so I took the roadster out. I had a blast with the top down and heater up. A 10-minute trip turned into half an hour. Owning a roadster turns even the most mundane excursions into something special.

HA...nice one...would been better if you didn't put 8 of your own in there. LOL
You're like those stand up comedians that are so bad they have to laugh at themselves just so someone in the room is laughing!

He wasn't laughing at himself, thats in another guys sig FYI.

Anyway, I will contribute a little to you decision if I can. I do not own a z or a g but I have owned all sorts of cars. From a sedan, to a GT type car and now I own a convertiable. I thought I wouldn't really like the Vert, but to be honest with you I love it! It may not be the fastest car ever, and it may not handle the best....but there is nothing like cruisen with the top down.....(or roasten the tire with it down either ) BTW its a 1990 5.0 Mustang Lx Vert! And the reason why I am here, is in a year or so I am going to be purchasing a new car....probably a Z! (plus my mom drives a G35x)

Anyway, I love my vert, when its nice out, topless is the only way to go....plus chicks love verts...at least my girlfriend does

Ben
