Default Why am I *NOT getting tire feathering

I have a 04.5 Roadster daytona blue 6speed.

Car is daily driver, 6204 miles on it purchased on July 9th 2004.

I drive the car hard ( 4 miles each way to work, 95% twisties,
amd I leave at the last possible minute)

why do I not HEAR or SEE any tire feathering symptoms yet?

Any speculation?

You may never get feathering. 1. I thought it was corrected on 04.5 & later. 2. I didn't experience feathering until about 14k miles even though most experienced it much sooner.

Shouldn't you be happy with *not* having tire feathering?

my tire feathering started at around 10,000 miles. But 13,000 miles, the tires had to be replaced. 2003 CS Track

Default just wait

I had 7k on my Track 2003, not a hint of feathering. Use to read on all these sites, esp this site about the feathering and think, those poor bastards, all that complaining and crying about their tires, quick someone call the Whaaambulance!! At 13k miles, during a road trip to New Orleans, I pull into a residential neigbor hood to sleep at my sisters and my car sounded like a frikin jeep with 44 inch super swampers. Now Im the one crying. Not really, just decided to live with it. Got free tires though and new alignment specs. No feathering yet but im sure it will come. So to answer your question, YES, most likely you will be the proud owner of a feathering Z. 03,04,05, hell even 06, will have feathering. I just live with it because I like everything else about the car. If I got to get more freq allignments and new tires every 13k miles, guess thats what I will do. Good luck though. BEN

Default New tires at 11,300

I didn't start to hear/feel any growling until around 10k miles. Nissan just gave me a new set of fronts and an alignment. The service manager said they are recommending an alignment every 6k-7k miles...but "there is no feathering issue for the '04s."

So what is the theory on why after 10k miles? So the tires are worn down a bit by that time. Why would the alignment change in 6 or 7k? Anyone has an opinion about this?

At the risk of sounding like an idiot - What exactly is feathering?

What do the tires start to look like?

check out this site Tire Feathering

It tells you about what it is.. They say it occurs from incorrect alignment..

1. prolly too soon
2. some say it occurs less with aggressive driving, eg twisties at the last minute.

From what I can see, the majority of 04.5's do not have the problem.

+1

Driving most of your miles on the twisties will wear your tires more evenly when you have aggressive caster settings.

Also the 2004.5 shipped with the second generation of RE-040 tires which came with a harder outer compound thus masking the problem longer.
