As long as its a extended warrenty offered by Nissan, you shold be ok... 3rd party extended warrenties are hit and miss... some are good, but sometimes you get a crappy company who will give you a hard time everytime you submit something..

If you plan on adding a Turbo/Supercharger in the future, then I would pass on the warrenty, as this will pretty much Void your Engine & Tranny

It's like buying insurance, do you feel lucky? I bought the 7 year extended warranty from Nissan, thinking one trip to fix the top would pay for it. Also it included some oil changes, check w/ your dealer.

That's what I did, too. I find that the older I get, the more I believe in hedging my bets. Plus, the dealer gave me a very attractive price that I couldn't resist.

I had extended warrenty on my 1998 Prelude, cost me $800 for it.. Glad I bought it because at 38k miles the AC unit went out, cost to replace it was like $1200, Extended warrenty replaced it and didnt cost me a penny.... So if you plan on keeping the car more then 3 years, I beleive its worth it.

You can deal quite a bit on them too. I got the 6 year/100,000 mile gold preferred warranty for under $1,000. There are just too many moving parts in the top!

I bought mine from a dealer off this forum. He sold it to me for $100 over the invoice and no tax b/c I bought from out of state. If I never have to use it the $725 (only got 75k/72month) was worth it for the peace of mind. If you want to check on the invoice price of different warranties give larry a call:

I bought it with my 05 as well (22 miles).
Went with 6 year/100,000 miles ($1,000).
Normally would balk on most cars, however I plan to keep this one well past 6 years (just clocked 1,000 happy miles today!).

Hey M, I see you joined the MD Z Club.

Be warned: the extended Nissan warranty does NOT cover the top!

True it does not cover the "convertible soft top" but the other components of the convertible are covered since they are not on the "not covered" list.

Section 8.2 of Gold Preferred Security Plus plan states:

What is not covered: 8.2

Paint, exhaust system, carpet, glass, upholstery, soft trim,
weatherstripping, convertible soft top, moldings, bright metal, clutch
disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing (manual transmission), any
and all in-vehicle communications systems, air bag sensors, conversion
of the air conditioning system to operate on R134, battery, lenses and
bulbs, tires, brake drums, disc brake rotors, wheels, MacPherson strut
inserts, shock absorbers, squeaks, rattles, water leaks, wind noise,
immobilizer key, and remote keyless entry switch assembly.

I was told the same thing that it does not cover the cloth top but everything else associated with it. After time, the top material is eventually going to start fading and streching and that is normal wear and tear. I have already set my mind to having to replace my top a couple years down the line to keep it looking nice. Does anyone know how much just the top costs?

Am not currently aware of the cost (your local Nissan parts department would know), however I would think that if you use this protective product on it, that you will not have to be concerned with replacing the top for many years...please see the link below about protecting the top.

The Component Coverage Guide for the Gold Preferred Plan lists everything that is covered in detail. There is a column that spells out all of the convertible top parts that are covered: everything from the hydraulic motor/pump assembly to the trunk lid opening actuator to the screen - rear. I count 85 parts, when I saw that list, I knew I wanted the warranty.
