Default Suspension for the ZR

I am thinking about upgrading the suspension on the ZR any ideas? I was thinking about the NISMO S-Tune Supsension.

But Jason at Performance Nissan recommends:

"honestly for the roadster I would recomend the TEIN BASIC since it is height adjustable and the spring rates are more forgivving to the extra weight in the rear... plus it is cheeper... and you can adjust the height to your liking..."

What do you think?

Thanks

Im not an expert on Suspension, but I noticed a big improvement putting the Nismo Type S on my car over the stock setup... I've never ridden in a ZR with the Tein Basic, so I can't really compare the two..

As far as weight goes, I think the roadster is only like 180 lbs heavier ? I wouldn't think that would make to big of a difference, but who knows... I don't think any company has made a specific suspension setup just for the Roadster... So its pretty much a toss up...

Default NISMO S-Tune Suspension

Built2shredZ,
Your opinion & comments would be much appreciated on your NISMO S-Tune Suspension! How do you like it, noticable difference over the stock/oem suspension?

Much Appreciated!

Personaly I like it a lot.. One of the things I noticed on the stock suspension was when you are taking corners pretty hard, the back end feels a little floaty, like your not really connected to the road in the back. After I got the Nismo installed that feeling went away, feels solid now... I take corners with a lot more confidence then with the stock suspension. As far as it feels riding in it, it feels about the same as stock, maybe a tad stiffer, but not that noticeable. So you still have a nice ride that will not jar you.

I know coilovers are pretty popular, but i've never liked the idea of my springs sitting on threads, what happens if the thread breaks when you taking a corner hard... can't be pretty... Also seems to me everytime you raise or lower the car its going to throw out the alignment? Maybe im wrong on this, but since raising or lowering you car witha normal suspension kit throws the alignment out, wont this happen everytime you adjust the height with the coilovers?

Default Nismo S-Tuned

Major,

Over the last couple of weeks, I called around about adding the s-tuned as well, and like yourself that was the same answer that Jason gave to me.

I ended up just adding the Nismo sway bars as well.

This week I'm adding on the LMGT-4's with Kumhos.

I would be interested in the results if you do add the s-tuned kit. Keep us posted.

Good luck!

Interesting thread; when I bought my Nismo S- Tune suspension and sway bars back in November, Jason was very enthusiastic about that set-up on the roadster. Anyway, that is what I have; I can't speak to any other set-up other than stock, of course, but I find the Nismo setup very satisfying! the car corners flat, control is significantly better, the ride is lowered not quite an inch...but noticeable, and the quality of ride did not deteriorate. yeah, it's a little harder going over bumps and holes you don't see in time to dodge, but I would highly recommend the S-tune setup. I wouldn't go back to stock, that is for sure.

Default NISMO Suspension & ZR

It would appear that the NISMO S-Tune Supsension does work very well for ZR. I hope to get a few more comments, so far the feedback is very positive!
I have to agree with Jason about one thing, this suspension is not cheap!

Thanks Every One for the "Feedback"

I"m in the same boat too, debating getting the Nismo S tune for my roadster. Only deterrent right now is the price so I'd like to hear Jason's input on this.

I bought the lowering springs, but now I want to change to something with more performance. Eibach at that time didn't have anything but the springs for the ZR

I've also been thinking about lowering my ZR, but I have a question:
I have a set of aftermarket wheels, BBS RGR 18x8.5 +23mm offset front and 18x9.5 +25mm offset rears, and I am concerned about any possible rubbing of the tires (245/40 front, 275/40 rears) against the fender lips, specially in the rears. Can you guys comfirm that the tires will not rub once I lower the car without having to roll the fenders? Thanks a bunch....

I got the NISMO S-tune on my Roadster, and I LOVE it. It feels like its on rails. I also got the NISMO sway bars and LMGT4 wheels. The package looks and feels awesome. I would agree its a bit tighter (read rougher) than the regular touring suspension, but coming from a Miata I really notice the difference in handling - much more improved with the NISMO setup.

Default suspension on the ZR

Another vote here for the Nismo S-tune. I have the full set-up with sways. Great handling and an improvement in ride. No added harshness and less "bounce". I actually think the suspension does wonders for handling the extra weight of the roadster. We all already know that the weight distribution of the roadster is better than the coupe, and is a perfect 50:50, and with a suspension upgrade and better wheels/tires, the car is a handling MONSTER.

And in regards to the post about lowering and rubbing with wider wheels/tires...you will not rub with the Nismo S-tune with the common 245/275 set-up that is the recommended for this car using an 8.5/9.5 wheel width set-up.

so i guess some people feel the s tune rides a bit harsher, others say not at all? I just want it a little lowered and better handling while maintaining comfort. S tune best way to go or other alternatives. I prefer not to do anything extreme that messes with the camber. One nice thing about the S tune is that it doesn't void your warranty.

BTW, what have people here been paying for the S tune installed? Luckily, I'm close to Performance Nissan so can always count on Jason to make sure all is right.

Default ZR & The NISMO S-Tuned Suspension

Great responses! I am pretty much convinced the NISM S-Tune Suspension will work great! The cost to install is an unkown at this point!

I installed myself. It truly is a complete unbolt/bolt-on install. If you have a good heavy duty socket set and a hydraulic car jack you are all set to go. It is a lot simpler than one might think and makes for a good one day weekend project. Having never done anything like this before, I finished the job in about 6-7 hours for all four corners. Then you only need to pay for alignment. It is also much more satisfying working on your car yourself.

One thing tho guys...

I talked to the Nissan Service Manager and Nissan will not cover the Nismo S-Tune Suspension under normal warrenty on the Roadster (It will on the coupe). There reasoning is the Suspension was designed for the Coupe and never tested with the Roadster, so therefore they will not honor the warrenty if a shock blows out on the S-Tune Suspension. This might change down the road, but im not sure..

Just wanted to let you guys know....

That said, I still installed it regardless because 1. I doubt I will have any problems with a shock blowing out, and 2. The better handling is worth putting it on.

Default NISMO S-Tune Suspension

The ZR is riding on its new suspension! Went to Performance Nissan on Thursday the 5th and had it installed.

I really can't tell if it is any lower (supposed to be 20mm lower), also the ride is a little more stiff but one thing I have noticed is the bounce is now gone. It seems to recover more quickly than with the oem suspension.
