Default NAV or no NAV??

I'm looking to get a 2005 Grand Touring, Silverstone ext and charcoal int.....the biggest problem has been finding one with the NAV system.

Is it worth it? Would like to hear some opinion's.

Thanks

I like it but def. not worth the $2K, you are better off going with aftermarket. Heck you can get a touch screen GPS/DVD/CD/ect voice activated for $1500.00

However, the OEM NAV does look nice and works fairly well. It has its drawbacks though.

Cannot use while driving (passenger using it on roadtrips)
No touchscreen
GPS only, no DVD
No remote
Joystick can be kinda touchy

OEM will also help with resale verses aftermarket. GL!

I got mine, because I was tired of teenage installers messing up my vehicle's!
(scratched my 03 coupe in 5 different places, busted my heater core line, almost blew my engine due to no coolant, coolant everywhere in the inside, the BS list goes on and on)

Anyway, GL on your purchase, if $ is not an object, I would get it!

Yeah but road maps do not tell you the nearest restaurant, gas station, phone numbers, addresses, next oil change, address book, ect.

Like I said, if you are not hurting for $, then I would get it.

OEM retains that factory look as well.

I wished I had one. Pioneer's next DVD/Nav will be an excellent choice in DD.

I've had Z roadsters with and without. I definitely prefer with. I also have a portable GPS that I use with my PDA that I was transferring from vehicle to vehicle before I bought the roadster with NAV. It just wasn't as convenient as the OEM, and the information wasn't as comprehensive. Plus, Nissan's bird's-eye view is awesome. I think NAV is one of those things like TiVO. Before you get it, you can't imagine what the fuss is about, but once you have it, you're hooked.

I got it on mine and are very happy with it. It was definitely an option I wanted and they are hard to find for some reason. The OEM install is nice because it is all hidden inside the nav compartment and the door closed automatically when you shut off the ignition. Nice option when you leave the top down to go into a store. The NAV system from Nissan is the same in all the Nissan's so have your dealer show you one in another car so you can see it for yourself.

Thanks for all the the replies...I think I am now leaning towards not getting it.

Now the next question is what is going to be a good price for the GT's since they have only been available since Jan.? I've got one dealer telling me right now, $750 over factory invoice, but only for in stock cars. Haven't tried to haggle with him yet.

Thoughts?

Again, thanks for the replies for the newb around here

Default Nav

Try the new pocket-sized Garmin Quest. It does have a small screen but you can see it just fine. It fits and works in the compartment where NAV would be or you can mount it to your windshield ala radar detector. Runs about 24 hours on a charge so you don't need a bunch of wires hanging around and the map software is superior to my Acura Nav. Get it online for around $400. It's obviously also portable so you can take it in any vehicle including boat, etc. I'm never paying $2000 for an OEM nav system again. I have five cars so this makes sense for me.

I don't think it is worth the money. If I had to do it all over, I would not have gotten Nav (but my wife made me, so it wasn't really an option).

I probably would'nt spend the 2k a second time...but I'm glad my z has the full boat on options.....One thing is cool about the nav...A sexy woman's voice tells you to make a "legel" U-turn if you go past the directed route.....Half the retailers in the sys are out of business and the two times I really needed it....The map was blank......The areas were so far out of the gen pop.......other than that, It was worth it.....lol

Have you considered a carputer? You can have touch screen GPS, DVD, XM, MP3, Internet, etc etc etc for less than $1000, and it ends up looking OEM rather easily.

Only catch is you have to like doing stuff like that yourself. Just a thought

Get a girlfriend and she'll do the same thing for you Although it might not be in a sexy voice, but a grating voice saying you don't know where the hell your going... but a female voice non the less

Have found the NAV system quite useful, accurate and detailed. Straight run on long trips, and quick find to new places. Makes for easy ride home at night from unfamiliar areas. I bought it again when I traded my 04 for my 05 SB Touring.
