Default Location of Radar dectector

I'm thinking of buying a radar detector and was wondering if anyone with a ZR has tried putting it in the small storage compartment located just off center in the rear between the two seats. I'm not sure if it's high enough to work properly.

Thanks

Well, I store my Solo S2 Cordless detector there.
I would never consider that as a place to operate it.
When in use it is easily affixed to the windshield center.
The Escort Solo S2 has one button to depress to remove it
from it's dual suction cups mounting (which stays on glass).

Simple Solution Suggestion!

I clip my Valentine 1 to the sun visor when I use. It's not an elegant installation (cord hanging down) but it works and I can easily rmeove it when I park with the top down.

I don't use it all the time since I live in a small city and know the radar traps. I always have it on for highway driving and in larger cities.

FWIW: One other handy thing is the Solo S2 windshield mount piece is fairly small and just a few bucks so I bought 3 more from the Escort site awhile back, and just move one detector around to whichever vehicle I am driving. Each one having a mounting piece ready really makes it convenient.

Mine is just under my rear-view. If you put your windows up and the top is down it would be pretty hard for someone to steal it without making a scene. They would literally have to jump into your car from the back. Looks good there and is very functional in that place.

Mine is attached with a Z bracket to the underside of the rear view mirror. It is hardwired right into the electrical connections for the mirror. It goes on once I fire up the car and off when I turn it off.

Definately works, but I am looking for something a little more stealth. I'm thinking in the roll hoop, but not sure how effective it will be there.

Do a search. I got mine mounted on the mirror as well, and wired directly. Got the info for the mount on this GREAT site.

The best location for receiving early radar and laser signals is high on your windshield.

For stealth try buying a few visor organizers. You may have to modify them some (and you will definitely need to route a hardware to the detector) however they hide them well.

^ I think I will go play around with the organizers and see what I can come up with. I was also thinking (pain in the *** though) of making a mount that goes over the triple pod gauges. I just don't want it to be in clear view.

Why not just get a radar mount made for a Z? http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/valentinemount.htm

Because some of us need stealthy installations...

I've been trying to figure out a stealthy roadster installation for over three years now - other than a "remote" design unit with a separate sensor in the grille and display in the nav cubby.

I haven't come up with anything original for a typical all-in-one unit.
