I still plan on driving mine in the winter. Not in the snow, ice, etc. but when it's dry out, why not? I took mine on a road trip Saturday about 150 miles round trip. Temps were in the 20's and light snow flurries. It felt SO good. Only thrill missing was not having the top down.

Re: Winter Driving - Not driving the Z? - No Way!

Yeah, it's cold, and we now have some snow that arrived Monday.
But when it's melted, and we have those decent days, my baby comes out of the garage again for short trips, or for the sheer fun of driving her. Trying to understand the hibernation guys... however I always felt that it's not good for any car to just 'sit' for long periods of time. I get it if you have to be off/away somewhere, but not if you have access to your Z. There has to be some decent days to take the Z out for a run wherever you are located.

Note: I do have 2 other cars and a 4WD truck to drive as needed during winter. The Z is not my main car, or a go to work car.

I took my Z out last year on a somewhat nice day to get an inspection. Took it out early on a Saturday when it was still a bit chilly and a slight frost was on the road

Drifted it around a corner like it was on skates!!

" ... Trying to understand the hibernation guys... "

When we get our 1st snow fall here every year, the city crew put salt and small rock on the road. The accumulated amount of rocks and salt increases as we get more snow. During a warm spell, the ice and snow may be gone from the roads, but the rocks and salt stays. Most of them will be pushed to the edge of the road or in between lanes.

If you drive a nice car, it’s almost guaranteed that one or more of the sharp rocks will fly up and hit you on the hood, windshields, head lights, front edge of the roof, mirrors, etc. (The dumb rocks stay put ! ) The damage is worse on the freeways due to speed. On average, we need to replace windshields twice every 5 years for all our winter driven cars. The front edge of the hoods are just totally covered with chips.

Do I want to drive the Z in the odd sunny warm days? Absolutely. Do I want to subject my beloved Z to these kind of damages? Well, I have a different car for that purpose. In the mean time, the Z can hibernate. Other hibernation guys may have a different reason.

I got a quick fix a few days ago. It had rained for 2 days, so a lot of salt and sand was washed away. It then turned dry and sunny with the temps in the balmy 40's. I took the ZR for a 40 minute joy ride. Top up, of course, but still great none the less. For those of you who feel that your NA Z is too slow, let me tell you that it is all relative. After a month of driving nothing but my Honda Pilot, the Z felt like a rocket.
