Vette or ZR??
Hi all, I've been lurking here for awhile, picking up good info along the way. I'm debating between an '06 ZR or a, '04 Vette convert. Both would end up being around the same price, but of course the vette wil be used. Anyone own a vette in the past that can give some pros & cons??
I use to love American cars/trucks, but now I want quality, looks and reliabilty. Thats why I am ordered a GTR 350Z 2006. The 350Z still stands out, but the Corvette is DD. This stands for dime a dozen, which is why I didn't get one. I use to look at every Vette that ran by now I just say wow a nother one. Now I look at every 350Z that goes by along with friends.
350Z or
DD Vette?

Link no workie!! I'm interested to see what the net seats look like. I thought they only came in orange (which would like strange on a red car).

I looked at both the 04 vette and the 350ZR. The vette has more engine and is way bigger. The big downside for me was a manual top that really required you to get out of the car to open/close. The interior was pretty weak as well. If you just want power the vette is the option. Now if I had to do it today and pick the current vette or the 350ZR I would go with the current vette, its smaller, auto top and much better interior.

I may be a little too slow on the reply, but here is my input.
I considered quite a few cars before buying my '06 touring roadster.
The Vette is quite a bit faster, even in C5 form. It also, as a previous poster mentioned, fits a big guy better (I am what is known in running circles as a "clydsedale"). You might also want to consider a C5 coupe, it has a removable top that is close to a vert and gives great luggage space. I have only driven a '97 coupe and it was quite a beast.
That being said, I still went with the ZR. It has plenty of power for me and feels like more of a precision instrument (to me, at least) than the C5s. There are quite a few C5s on the road, so the Z it a little more rare. I also have had terrible luck in the past with used American cars, and $2k to replace a set of tires doesn't seem like a whole lot of fun.
They are both great cars and you will probably be happy with either. Drive both, buy the one that moves you more.

Buy an 04 or 05 zr and vortec supercharge it. Get some new wheels and tires. Get some sways and springs and have it professionaly tuned. You will have your own custom modded car for less than the vette and it will blow the doors off it. The Vette is more to insure and is not as excotic. BUT, if you have an extra 5 or 10 grand go for the 05 Vette. (not convertable) Add 15 more. By the way I have that supercharged zr
Consumer Reports lists the Vette as "much worse than average" for reliability, about 65 percent worse than average.
They suggest avoiding it as a used car purchase. I counted about 14 solid black circles on models going back to 1998. This is not as bad as the new Ford Mustang V-6 (82 percent worse than average). At any rate, both of these are good examples of why I'm looking at German or Japanese roadsters.
On the other hand, an older Vette can be a good investment, which is something to be proud of as an American; I do love the Vette brand, and it's an incredible value compared to the other cars it's often grouped with/tested against in the reviews.

I was under the impression that the C6 vettes (and C5's for that matter) are pretty high in quality.
If I had to go back and do the car purchase all over again I may have gone for a new C6. In Canada they are selling them in the low $60's now. The ZR I have is listed in the $50's.
The problem is the vert C6 is still is up in the $70's (beyond my reach).
