Convertible Update

LittleRussian320, TT stands for "Twin Turbo."
Thanks for the info, JmanZ! Especially the news on the TT. November 2004 introduction in Japan puts it here early in 2005, I guess, which is about 2 years after the car's release here. That's pretty much the same thing that Subaru did with the WRX, bringing it out about 2 years ago and now coming out with the STi.

Convertible pics on the 6th
I just want to see some final pictures so I can decide if it's worth the wait for the drop-top, or I should just go ahead and get the hard top.
6 days. 6 more days. I've waited this long... I can wait 6 more days.

Convertible vs Z4 & S2000
That is exactly the decision I had to make. I am assuming that a nicely equipped 350Z will be in the mid 30s. That meant I had to look at the Z4 and the S2000. Here is how I picked the 350Z
The Z4 in that price range is the 2.5L engine. It is way too slow for a car that expensive. Also, I still don't like the "dented" look of the "flame body style". Add a few comforts to the Z4 and it gets expensive fast. Upgrade to the bigger engine and you are at $40K before leather. ouch.
the S2000 is a better comparision. The problems with the S2000 (for me) are A) It is too snug. I am 6'2 and built like a linebacker. The 350Z is huge by comparision. and B) All the S2000 power is way up in the high revs. It is fast on a track, but in real commuting traffic I would prefer the torque of the 350Z engine.
They are all FINE cars, but to me the Z had the best combination of price and performance.
I can't wait for my convertible!!!!

I know this isn't the 'official' release yet but ran across this pic of a CS roadster I wanted to share. If the prod version looks anything like this, It will be AWESOME. I was told that the rear strut brace will remain in place for this version to retain structural integrity in the convertible model.

both are fake, but they are general guides. only real question is what they will do behind the seats, roll bar, 2 roll bars, none? retract with built in boot, or not? these are alot of variables, but not too huge in looks.
no one can guess on what it looks like with the top up. whether they can maintain the sloped roof into the trunk design or if it will become even more "TT" like.

I kind of agree... I have always liked the looks of the last generation Eclipse coupes... Up until the 1999 I think it was. The coupe had such an aggressive look to it. The same year convertibles really did not look nearly as aggressive as the coupes. Same goes the Audi TT coupes.
Hardtop coupes are awesome, but obviously from what we hear that would be a snowball's chance in hell. I am sure the 350Z soft-top will look great, but I will be much more excited to see what powertrain options Nissan will give us over the next couple years then what they have in store for the convertible. I would take a turbocharged coupe (yeah right!) or a V8 (in your dreams!) over a soft-top any day.
The look of the MotorTrend photo is the best bet at keeping an aggressive design, but the car is very short and it will be interesting to see if Nissan can chop the top off without cheapening the look. I am sure they can... we will just have to wait and see if they do.
